Hi!  Want to completely fuck the keyboard-tracking system in the ass?  Want to do it in a way that they literally cannot do anything about without disabling primary Windows functions?

Step 1: Open Notepad.

Step 2: Copy the following text, line for line, omitting only the --- that caps either end of it. --- Dim objResult Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Do While True   objResult = objShell.sendkeys("{NUMLOCK}{NUMLOCK}")   Wscript.Sleep (6000) Loop --- Step 3: Save this as whatever.vbs, put it somewhere you can access easily, and double click it when you start your computer.

What does this do?

This runs a very basic script, and every six seconds, your computer will double-tap the NumLock key (i.e., turn it on, and then off) in a single instant.  This counts as a key-press, occurs with a key that shouldn’t affect most things that you’re doing, occurs with no gap between them even if it could affect things you’re doing, and should prevent this kind of BS from engaging.  As an aside, this will also prevent your computer from automatically locking itself, so take that into account if you need to manually lock your computer when going to lunch or whatever.

#ok so like#yes?#but also: this is actually a terrible example of this#and i keep seeing people memefying this as a clout thing like#lol i don’t partake in spotify wrapped because i don’t believe in the commodification of data tracking#meanwhile they’re posting it on instametafacebookiverse#like#yes spotify keeps a record of the songs you listen to within the app they made for listening to songs#but they’re not actually tracking your every choice and action they’re tracking information you’ve put on your account that you made#to listen to songs#its the equivalent of the data you get when you like#look at stats within a video game#this game can tell that you played it x many hours#the real analogy to the insidious tracking from companies like google and zucky and amazon#would be if spotify was also tracking songs you heard in the mall/songs you played in other apps on your phone/songs you listened to on yt#and collated that into your spotify wrapped#this is at best a bad analogy used to suck the joy out of something harmless and fun#and at worst disinformation designed to distract folks from the deeply insidious tracking of the largest and most egregious actors#none of which are actually spotify unfortunately#like there is a real case to be made for the harm spotify is doing to the music industry#but that’s not about your personal privacy at all (via @swashbucklery)
