I realize this is a cast iron gate but I’m choosing to believe it’s a magic protection ritual
It IS a magic protection ritual, and it summons an iron gate to protect you from intruders.
“I cast Iron Gate!”
As a blacksmith I have been called a wizard by several small kids
If magic existed IRL, it's blacksmithing

i think eventually we're all just gonna have to come to terms with the fact that it's impossible to tell a story with any degree of subtlety or nuance without risking a portion of the audience taking the "wrong message", and that's ok. art isn't meant to be strictly a teaching tool, and if you're goal is just to convince people or critique an idea, just write an essay or a polemic
people taking the "wrong message" from a story isn't a failure of that story, it's a function of art itself
The moment you have people start attaching morals and real life to stories or fanfictions is when art dies.
Of course real life should be prioritized, BUT I think having art separated from IRL makes a story more engaging.
I think also there's a lot of adults who grew up without having a sense of their disbelief suspended. They cannot accept that a story can be a story without morally grandstanding every 5 minutes, and having to fight for a cause. They also cannot accept any depiction of Evil that's actually realistic because they're worried about impressionable people reading it and becoming the fictional evil, and I just cringe everytime I see it online.
Fallout New Vegas is a good example of this, where people online say they like Caesars Legion with no elaboration. It could be they like the design of the faction, the voice acting, the way its written. Then when people who dont understand nuance join the conversation and confront them, accusing them of being misogynistic or supportive of an evil regime and that they must do that in real life, the people accusing them of liking a FICTIONAL faction look insane.
People can like whatever they want and don't have to explain themselves, just like writers don't have to explain why they made a villain who was compelling/sympathetic and not a brain dead "ooh I'm bad because I'm bad" guy.
Don't apologize for the stories or works of art you make, people pleasing won't get you anywhere.
Reblog if you remember this motherfucker:
ooh i have a nice fun fact!
Static was WILDLY popular in Brazil (a country where the population is over 50% black) and we had re-runs for YEARS on open television. Everyone who was a kid in the 2000s knew and loved him. As a result, every single Brazilian Con has a LOT of static cosplayers!
So, a couple of years ago, Comic Con Experience (the biggest con in Brazil, which is actually also the biggest con in the world!) invited Static’s creator Denys Cowan as one of the guests of honor.
Now. Thousands of people attend his panel. And cosplayers went NUTS because they could show their Static cosplay to the creator himself! What none of us expected was Debts Cowan’s reaction:
He cried on stage.
He had never seen Static cosplayers - especially not so many of them! And he had no idea the show was popular here! No one ever told him his character was so beloved! Years and years of reruns and he had no idea! He obviously created the character with his experiences and his community (Black North Americans) in mind. Still, he accidentally touched a whole other community of black people who could see themselves on the screen as a superhero!
Anyway he is a lovely person and one of the best, most memorable guests we had. And I think this is a nice reminder that your art might touch people you can’t even imagine would when creating it.
