Marxolor Week 2026 Day 1: Discovery/Galaxy
Here's a written interpretation of what I think transpired after the events of Milky Way Wishes - and a little while before the events of Return to Dream Land!
(I am really nervous about sharing, so any reassurances are highly appreciated🙏)
"Alright! This should do the trick!"
A chipper voice rang out among the whirring and buzzing sounds made as the Lor Starcutter booted up. Its energy reserves had been drained for a long time, but after spending much time combing the crumbling planet of Halcandra, Magolor had managed to secure a handful of Energy Spheres. There was enough power contained within them to breathe life into the starship again - though whether it was enough to get it to move was still up for debate.
Still though, Magolor was feeling fairly confident. If he could get the Lor to be able to move at all, he'd be one step closer to achieving his ambitions. All he needed to do now was test it out.
"Okay, Lor! What do you say we go for a joyride, huh?" he asked the ship. He sounded a little insane talking to a ship as if it could respond - but hey, he's been alone for a while. He could really use something to talk to, even if it couldn't talk back.
Rubbing his hands together maniacally, Magolor began to type away at the console, setting the command to start up the Lor's engines. Once that was done, he pressed a few more buttons, and just like that, the engines roared to life. Slowly, the starship lifted off the ground, dust scattering about as the oars paddled through the air, and away into the stars it went.
Magolor was ecstatic. This was exactly how the Lor was described in the ancient texts he read, and with any luck, they might be able to cross dimensions too.
His master plan was finally about to be set in motion.
However, as fate would have it, the power of the Energy Spheres was waning fast. As the Lor traveled through the starry expanse, Magolor could see the energy gauge out of the corner of his eye depleting rapidly, much to his disappointment.
Shame, he thought, scratching his head. I'd hoped we could get further than that, but oh well. Just gotta find more-
His thoughts were interrupted when the Lor alerted him of an anomaly.
Huh... Is that-
Magolor strained his eyes at the console screen, trying to get a better idea of what his ship was detecting.
...a lifeform?
There was no other explanation, really. Whatever it was the Lor was sensing had to be some kind of living being. Its shape was far too specific to be a mere asteroid. It almost looked like... a clown, of sorts? At least, that's what Magolor thought seeing the very vague shape of a jester hat.
He had to get a closer look.
Wasting no time, he rushed up to the Lor's upper deck, peeking out into the starry scape to try and spot the strange lifeform. He couldn't help but notice an awful lot of debris around him - debris that looked suspiciously manmade, and that had a strange magic aura to it.
Just what had happened here?
"Hello?" he called out to the lifeform, wanting to make sure they were still alive. "Can you hear me? Are you okay?"
No response. Magolor leaned forward, straining to see where they were, and on closer inspection, the lifeform looked... rather lifeless. His body was a sickly green, and from where Magolor stood, the eyes seemed to be glazed and unfocused - a clear sign that the lifeform was either dying or dead.
"Huh," Magolor said aloud. "It seems you're in rough shape there, pal." He scratched his head again, looking back towards the entrance he came from, wondering if he should leave the lifeform alone. But on second thought, the Lor was an advanced machine, and it was possible it contained medical equipment. Though Magolor had limited medical experience, he felt bad about leaving something to die - especially if it was still alive.
After all, the amount of magic around them raised many questions for him. Questions that, if this lifeform could answer them, might aid him in his quest.
Having made up his mind, Magolor shook his head and said, "Don't worry, buddy! I'll help you out!"
He leapt from his spot on the Lor's deck and flew over toward the lifeform, grabbing him tightly with both hands, and carefully dragged him back. He dodged his way around the debris as he went, making sure none of it hit him or the precious cargo he was carrying as he made his way back into the Lor.
Once they were both inside, Magolor laid the peculiar lifeform down on a table, giving him a lookover. As he'd suspected, it was some kind of jester; though it was merely a sphere-shaped body with feet, the jester hat and bowtie were a dead giveaway. It was a wonder that both were intact, Magolor thought, given the state that the lifeform was found in. And despite being inside the Lor, which as far as Magolor could tell was not magical in the slightest, he still sensed a magic aura. Whatever this lifeform was, he seemed to possess some form of magic, and it might possibly be tied to the debris field outside.
Magolor felt a strange sense of intrigue looking at this lifeform. He couldn't explain what it was; something about this jester seemed to draw him in, as if all the answers in the universe were held in that small body. It was a feeling he'd never felt before, even compared to the sense of wonder he felt upon discovering the Lor Starcutter for the first time. The kind of wonder one might get when looking at a natural wonder or an ancient artifact.
Plus, he'd been alone for so long. Much of the life he'd encountered in his time on Halcandra had died off, vanquished by the guardian residing in the volcano. The only real "company" he'd ever had was the Lor - and even then, as far as he could tell, it was non-living. Non-speaking. Non-feeling. This jester, on the other hand, wasn't. In fact, he could very well be someone Magolor could talk to; not just to converse with, but to plot with. Scheme with. Cause trouble with, make mischief with. Maybe, just maybe, this jester could be his partner in crime.
He'd just need to revive him first.
