Self-indulgent shit that I thought only happened in fanfiction between two macho, male, supposedly heterosexual characters until a show in 2010 proved it could be written into Canon too.
Donating an organ to the other half.
Couch cuddling.
Saying "I love you" regularly.
Forced proximity roommates turned roommates by choice.
Calling each other pet names, mainly 'babe.'
Co-parenting one of their children.
Near death dream hallucination where they grow old together in the same home.
Randomly decided to open a restaurant together and upped their normal 'bickering like an old married couole' default to unprecedented levels.
Dance together at a wedding.
Go to a literal couples counseling retreat together.
"I am so happy to see you right now. I'll give you a hug, I'll give you a kiss, pick a base."
"Why'd you stop holding my hand? We're fighting?"
Asking, "what are you wearing?" over the phone.
"Are you talking to your wife?" "I'm talking to my partner."
One gives up on a chance to reconcile with his ex and follow her back home to save the other man.
They literally changed the trajectory of the other's life. Cause what do you mean both of them went from hating that place and wanting to leave, to planning out their retirement there together?
Sitting next to each other on a double date and staring into each other's eyes instead of their date's.
Telling his date he's already in a dysfunctional marriage with the other one.
One of them gets offended when they aren't included in the other's retirement plans, because he would have included his ex wife in a decision like that if they were still married, right? "Are you comparing my failed marriage to our relationship?"
McDanno will forever be THE definition of queerbaiting for me, and I'm so glad I didn't have to suffer it live, I would not have survived. They're literally in some 'platonic' life partners relationship in canon and should have just been gay for each other already. Buddie, Sterek, Destiel, none of them hold a candle to McDanno...Yet. (There's theoretically still a chance for Buddie đ¤)
Ah, it's a pity you missed it live. It was, indeed, a huge ten year promise that opted to not quite deliver. BUT the fanfiction and the fanfic community was (is) so fantastic. And the leads sold the pairing effortlessly.
