Memory loss doesn't look like what I thought it would. I spent several years convinced I could have a dissociative disorder primarily because I "didn't experience memory loss". I wasn't waking up in a strange place unaware of how I got there. I wasn't having people I'd never met come up to me and call me by a different name. I wasn't finding things I'd bought unintentionally or projects I'd done with no recollection of doing them. But I was, not remembering why I was upset in the middle of crying. Finding journal entries I didn't write. Suddenly not liking music I saved on a playlist named 'my favorite songs ever'. Randomly wanting to make drastic changes to my appearance and then forgetting why I wanted to look like that. Not knowing what day of the week it was, or how many days it had been since I did something (was that this morning or 3 days ago). Having friends tell me I was acting differently when I thought that was how I always acted.

simply put,

-CDDs are disorders, they're disorders because they cause significant distress. That distress needs to be treated, and can only be treated accurately if you have that disorder diagnosis

-Demediclisation of CDDs means making it so CDDs aren't disorders at all, and you can't be diagnosed with them

-Demedicalising CDDs means people can't get medical treatment for them

-CDDs are inherently medical conditions because they're mental disorders.

-Plurality isn't inherently a medical condition and should be de-medicalised, because it's not the same as a CDD

I forgot I was given permission to post here so I am gonna use this blog to bitch (and get past the "good vibes only" thing curated for our main system blog).

I saw a comment on a post that mentioned hostility against pwCDDs in the syscourse (sigh) tag that said something like "but people aren't anti-CDD I've never seen that" and like, I ain't criticizing that commenter at all. It just made me think. Most people who are anti-CDD aren't actively identifying as "oh I hate people with CDDs". It's not like a discourse stance. I mean, how often do you find someone in the wild (other than some edgy asshole) saying "I hate disabled people"? It's not something you proclaim, but it shows up in the shit you do.

Being anti-CDD is calling for the demedicalization of CDDs. It's mocking people for the symptoms associated with CDDs (and if you're thinking "Rhys, people don't mock dissociative disorder symptoms" then I wish that I lived in the same world you did because it's everywhere). It's the Wonderland system jokes. It's fakeclaiming someone's (anyone's) system. It's purposely trying to trigger someone's trauma response. It's making fun of someone's "bad memory". It's mocking someone's trauma. It's the "evil split personality" thing seen in media. It's "the voices told me to" jokes. It's degrading someone's lived experiences. It's youtubers making a whole platform off of sensationalizing dissociative disorders (mainly thinking about those fake disorder cringe compilations and youtubers whose whole thing is fakeclaiming systems). There's more. There's always more. This list is just to make a point.

True! The thing about ableism is that it almost always hits multiple targets, including targets that don't have the disorder. Especially with mental illness, where there are many similarities between the diagnoses and many comorbid conditions. Something like making fun of someone's bad memory is BOTH anti-CDD and anti-memory disorders (not a specific category in a diagnostic manual, but think dementia, alzheimer's, dissociative amnesia, head trauma-induced amnesia, sometimes ADHD, etc.). Making derogatory jokes about "the voices" is both anti-CDD AND anti-psychotic disorders. Makes sense?

There is hostility towards pwCDDs everywhere and it's normalized because it isn't people outright saying that "people with complex dissociative disorders suck". If it were that easy, it would be easier to combat. Unfortunately it's not, and in my opinion ableism against CDDs remains unchallenged often. - 🪴

There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.

Not sure who's fronting, but this blog feels like the right place to post so I am here.

Only like one person in this system actively identifies with the term fictive even if more of us count in some way and frankly we're sick and tired of how fictive-focused so many system spaces are.

Don't get me wrong, we love fictives, y'all are cool and we have no beef there. If anything I'm mad on behalf of y'all because people can get so fucking weird about it.

Gonna use JJ as an example because she's free real-estate for this shit.

She's one of the folks here who could probably call herself a fictive here but she chooses not to, but interactions can go a little something like this.

Can we be normal about fictives please? And can we treat non-fictives with the same respect? Non-fictives don't deserve to be ignored or disregarded because they don't have a source like that. Ik that this is probably a minor problem in the grand scheme of everything, but it feels like it has ties to deeper issues both in and out of this community.

I get so fucking mad sometimes looking back on mine and others experiences as children that were just ignored. Shit could have gone sideways really fast.

I'm talking detailed HI and SI (with an attempt). I'm talking parents not taking our teachers seriously when they asked them to take us to a psychiatrist. I'm talking being groomed. I'm talking about so much shit. We were so close to being a headline when we were younger and more volatile.
