I just watched "When Harry Met Sally" and did not like it, which was a let down cause I had read a few fics that took the plot and then added characters I liked to it, and that was amazing. But the film was a let down to me

Gotta say the romcoms where you got the “I fucking hate it here” and “the only here that matters is you” god it’s my favorite.

the “I didn’t think I was worthy of dreaming of home” that’s my romcom right there. I love that shit. It gets me at more core. Brother it’s amazing.

I can name a few rn as a lil treat. What If (2013) Wallace just dedicated to being someone who isn’t worthy of love. And Chantry who is the most oblivious person ever. But they’re both so deeply in need of love. they’re still there for one another no matter what.

gotta mention my girl Palm Springs (2020). Sarah has that wonderful element of just needing to be loved and have a life with joy. And she finally gets it but at the highest cost. And our boy Nyles. Just so incredibly numb that the doesn’t think that love could be real until it’s on top of him. And at that the numbness is overhauled by purpose to be dedicated to loving Sarah.

sure all of these characters are selfish as fuck for most of the movies. And a lot of them have their lil wretched moments. But that’s what I love about these films. They have all wormed their way into my soul and sit on a loop.

Spoilies ahead. so if we get to the people we meet on vacation (2026). We once again get two people who are in desperate need of love and friendship. I don’t think they know what it is to be seen. Poppy is our classic disconnected girlie wandering in the hope she can find comfort but fully in the belief that comfort and love can never be for her so she microdoses on Alex. And Alex practically begs to be told how to live his life not what to want but how to be in it. Tuscany went the way it did because he couldn’t allow himself to even think of Sarah as a real possibility until he knew that Poppy wasn’t there.

I just fucking love a romcom and what really gets me is this type of romcom. Big 2026 better send more of these my way. Cause I need that in my life. A beautifully color graded well written disaster.
