it's very important to me that there's understanding here, ok? i want understanding. i don't want meaningless fandom wank. i don't have shit for ads or deals or whatever the fuck. i am literally just a guy. i have no ad partnership whatever the fuck. i gain nothing from "stirring up controversy"
when i say, "the new warframe chapter shows signs of hitting racist themes," i am not saying
you're bad if you enjoy warframe
actually you need to kill yourself if you enjoy warframe
please do some sort of ritual suicide in front of me right now to prove that you're divesting yourself from warframe
we're not doing that. we're not doing any of that. i still have friends that play warframe. fuck me in the ass, man, sometimes i still play warframe! sometimes it hits some psychological gameplay shit JUST right in a way that i need
there is literally nothing wrong with playing warframe or enjoying warframe.
all that is separate from talking about and critiquing warframe's story as a larger whole.
ok. are we grown-up enough to accept that the previous is true, and also that we can critique it? do not pass this line if you cannot balance those concepts.
the problem is not "warframe portrayed racism and that's a bad thing and it needs to be cancelled for it!!!" fuck me in the ass, girl, stop talking to fuckin redditors
the problem is "warframe is pulling on some seriously heavy real-life racial symbolism and I'm seeing signs that they're not treating that with the gravity it deserves, which is gonna result in their narrative shitting the bed and ultimately telling a completely different story than what they obviously want to tell"
i don't think that warframe is purposely trying to tell a story about indigenous americans and casinos. i DO think that they're pulling on symbolism associated almost exclusively with indigenous americans and casinos--rebb's own direct quote that they purposely strove for a "rust belt" feeling--without understanding of what that means for the greater narrative. their story is not going to land the way they want it if they keep pulling on symbolism like this, without any kinda building up original story or plot to buffer against Unfortunate Implications.
that unintentional symbolism can 100% absolutely sink your narrative. it can shred your story. it can deep-six otherwise decently-written text.
thaaaaat's the issue. not "DE needs to commit seppuku on livestream for Problematic Writing," but "pulling on these deeply racialized threads without proper respect for the weight they're dealing with will sink their story"
