Iâm fanartful lately
ÂŤ This war is on track to cost the United States more than $1 trillion. It has resulted in enormous damage to American military bases in the Middle East, significantly reduced the stockpile of interceptor missiles on which the United States relies to deter China and other potential adversaries, put tens of millions of people around the world at risk of acute hunger, accelerated inflation in the United States, and led to the death or injury of hundreds of Americans and thousands of Iranians, including more than 100 children who were reported killed when a Tomahawk missile mistakenly hit an elementary school in the town of Minab.
Despite this economic and human toll, the war has achieved very little. While the president has been typically erratic in outlining the warâs aims, over the past three months he has generally stressed three objectives: eliminating Iranâs ballistic missiles, ending its nuclear program and helping the Iranian people overthrow their government.
None of that has happened. According to Americaâs own intelligence, the Islamic Republic retains roughly 70 percent of its prewar missile stockpile. The United States has neither eliminated Iranâs access to the highly enriched uranium that it could potentially use to build a nuclear bomb nor taken down the Islamic regime itself. Indeed, the Iranian government is arguably stronger than it was when the war began, having demonstrated its ability to cripple the global economy by restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Âť
â Peter Beinert writing at the New York Times.
The undeclared and unauthorized Trump Iran war has been the sort of fiasco we would expect from a dumbass loser like Donald Trump. The only good that might come out of it is that it may cause more people to see the benefits of renewable energy which is not subject to the whims of emirs, ayatollahs, or semi-literate orange billionaires.
Trump is now lying about his past campaign promises not to involve the US in new wars. Trump's serial lying is not exactly news. But for the record, CNN did a fact check which easily exposed his lies.
Fact check: Trump told NBC that he never promised not to start a new war. He did, repeatedly
His most glaring promise from the 2024 campaign...
"Under Trump, we will have no more wars, no more disruptions, and we will have prosperity and peace for all."
Trump also promised to end inflation and the Russian war on Ukraine on Day One â but those are different lies.
I think a lot about the fact that Dick is the only one of Bruce's children that he met as Bruce Wayne and not Batman
Jason met Batman in that alleyway amidst his attempt at theft. Tim was invested in Batman first before he knew the person under the cowl. Cass knew the mission before the family, the knight before the man. Damian had been raised with stories of the Bat specifically and recognized the legend before his parent. Barbara imitated the Batman's shadow before outgrowing it. Stephanie trusted Batman before/more than she trusted the man behind it. Duke had been raised with the stories of Batman, knew him first before knowing who he truly is.
Dick though?
The first encounter he ever has with Batman is as Bruce Wayne
Bruce who cared not about Dick being a stranger and the larger case unfolding around them, and just saw a child crying and surrounded by his dead guardians, and thought "This is what I was made for" before coming to help him
Bruce who tore through a chaotic crowd to come to a boy with sweet sad blue eyes full of anger and grief, and thought "Oh, you need someone. I can be that someone. Do you want me to be that someone? I'd tear my heart out for you if you'd like"
LOOK OUT ITS THE BOY WONDER!
I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;
The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.
And I am not going to mince words here:
A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.
That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.
"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.
So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.
#imo the potluck analogy applies- it would be rude to critique someone's icing technique at a potluck bc it wasn't as good as at the bakery #but if they had decorated their cupcakes w hate symbols it wouldn't be rude to tell them that's gross and gtfo #in fact it would be inappropriate to NOT say anything in that situation #or to complain that another guest who did point it out was 'ruining everyone's potluck' #and pointing out racism in fan works is 100% the second thing not the first! Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that
Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do
Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control
Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child
Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.
happy birthday tim!

So imagine a DnD character whoâs whole motivation is âX guy killed my parents and I need to find themâ and the party just thinks âok, revenge quest, thatâs normalâ
But when they finally find the guy the person with dead parents is just like âHey buddy, long time no see. Itâs a shame we got separated, hereâs some moneyâ and theyâre super chill.
The party is just confused and goes âWait, why are you giving him gold?â
The guy just goes âCause I owe him money?â
The party âBut he killed your parents???â
âThatâs why I owe him money!â
Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!
how it is apparently
I'd burn my hands to hold you again.
