Do you ever think about the fact that Nightwing is kinda Batman’s greatest success and failure rolled into one?

Think about it.

Bruce raised Dick to be the perfect hero- every super and non super loves him. And he’s got the abilities to back it up as one of the best hand to hand fighters in DC, hes an expert detective, he’s kind, funny likeable (far more likeable than Batman himself)

He’s the kind of hero Batman could never be, Batman just doesn’t inspire teams like Nightwing can. He can’t joke around with his friends the same way as Dick. People worry about Batman, sometimes they fear him.

But he raised Dick to be better, do better-

But at the same time, Bruce has trapped him.

Dick Grayson will always be the golden child, the best of all of us, he’s not allowed to break, he’s not allowed to lose it like everyone does, he’ll always be walking that tightrope of being perfect being the best being good good good good-

He picked up on all the negative qualities in Bruce too- the paranoia, the anger, the self hatred for never quite being good enough- but he just does a better job hiding them.

People don’t know to check in on Nightwing like they check on Bruce-

because thats Dick Grayson- thats the golden boy, he never slips up, he’s the best of all of us-

And Dick will always be teetering on that tightrope, so close to falling- failing- but never truly breaking. Because that’s not how he was raised.

Every time I read a “Justice League meets their evil counterparts from another universe” fic and it’s Clark, Diana and everyone else fighting their evil doppelgängers while the Batmans just…talk? I eat that shit up every time. Even if they do end up fighting, those Bruces always gotta sit down and hash it out first, maybe nerd out a little bit. You know, normal things to do with your evil twin from another universe.

Hate to bring the angst to a funny post, but I think that's probably in part because every version of Bruce already thinks that he's a monster. It's just something he accepts about himself, even if it isn't true. So figuring out exactly where their moralities diverge is more important to him, probably.

Kids don't want to be Batman because he's rich, they want to be him because he's got tons of cool gadgets he invented himself, is a badass martial artist, is a genius on par with Lex Luthor, and uses all this to be on the same level as Superman despite having zero actual superpowers. They see the little boy who lost both his parents, decided nobody else should ever have to live through that, and want to be like that.

Kids don't want to be Superman because he's superior to humans(he isn't, that's always been a core part of his character that he rejects that outlook and it's always just Lex projecting his view of Superman onto Superman himself), they wanna be able to deflect bullets and shoot lasers from their eyes because Superman uses all that to show the best side of humanity, to show how humanity isn't even tied to actually being human but to how you act towards other people.
