As the whistle blew for the umpteenth time that period, Lily and Remus exchanged a bemused look. “What the fuck is his problem?” Lily whispered, watching Sirius slide, again, into the penalty box.
Remus, just as confused as she was, shook his head and furrowed his brows. “Dunno. I mean…he hates Malfoy, but he’s never targeted someone like this before, you know?”
Sirius had just gotten his third penalty of the night, risking ejection from the game if he got a fourth. Getting three penalties was odd enough–Sirius wasn’t usually so aggressive–but what was even stranger was that they were all against the same bloke.
“I’m going to go down and talk to James,” Lily said decisively, standing and making her way to the steps in the bleachers.
“Lils, you can’t talk to the players during–”
But she was already gone, picking her way down the stairs and around the rink, walking determinedly like she belonged on the opposite side where the players stood. She found James waiting on the bench, staring at the ice, watching his team play.
“Lily!” he beamed, instantly distracted. “Did you come to wish me luck? Little late, but I’ll take i–”
She did her best not to blush. “No. Why the fuck does Sirius have it out for Malfoy?” she asked, eyes narrowed.
This, however, just seemed to amuse James. “Ah. During warm-ups, Malfoy told Sirius that he was going to seduce Remus. Sirius has been taking it a little…well…seriously.”
Lily let out a shocked laugh at this. “This is over Remus?” she demanded, giggling.
“Mhm. Sirius is definitely the jealous type,” James grinned.
“Oi, Potter! Care to, I dunno, play some hockey today?” the coach shouted toward them, making James’s head snap around.
“Sorry, Lils, got to go!” James apologized, quickly throwing on his helmet before vaulting over the boards and onto the ice.
Lily just walked away, laughing.
Sirius did end up getting kicked out of that game.
