good morning to the beaten and the damned only
a good thread
I swear, some of you people somehow manage to possess all of the three most unfortunate character traits someone can have: a) kinda stupid, b) obnoxiously contrarian, c) deeply annoying.
stuff you say when you don’t give a fuck about women quite frankly
Hence the not-uncommon adage that the washing machine did even more for women's liberation than the birth control pill
Dishwashers also sanitize dishes! My old UU church, which had a dishwasher but not a commercial one, had to boil the silverware after large events when we ran out of space in the dishwasher--wash by hand, then boil in a pot on the stove. Because otherwise one sick child at Thanksgiving could potentially kill an elderly or disabled member of the church. (My current UU church has a commercial dishwasher.)
Even residential dishwashers use high enough temperatures to kill bacteria and viruses before they can pass between roommates or family members. They also sterilize food containers, extending the time you can keep meal-prep or leftover items in the refrigerator.
So...you have a device that saves time, water, energy, food waste, and lives, but you refuse to use it because it's "lazy"?
My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
it actually is insane to me that it's a cultural norm for men to suck ass at getting their wives/gfs gifts. especially when they whine about how they have no idea what women like.
man, you're not getting a gift for Female Domestic Partner. you're getting a gift for Natalie, a person whom you have been married to for 7 years, whom has lived in the same home with you for a decade, whom speaks to you every day about her thoughts and interests, whom you presumably love, and whom you can directly or indirectly ask what she wants. it's not that you don't know what half the human population wants, that's irrelevant. you don't know what Natalie wants and that is inexcusable.
Normal groceries like milk or bread or whatever running out is whatever. Just anotha day. But when stuff like salt or cooking oil or rice runs out it feels like You’re supposed to be here for me and you’re leaving. You’re just like everyone else
Happy Pride Month to those two women dancing together in the foreground of the boat scene in Godzilla (1954).
I’m sorry your romantic foibles were overshadowed by a big ass atomic lizard thing.

victor hugo failed in his duty to visit a psychic before writing it who would have warned him that 150 years in the future his decision to include nine shippable twinks as minor characters in his magnum opus would lead to the development of one of the most insufferable fandoms of the twenty first century

For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

‘This is how we cement President Trump’s agenda’: Tennessee Republicans celebrate state’s new congressional maps – as it happened MAY 7 - 11
Similar protests occurred in the House chamber just before the map was called to a vote. Synchronized sirens went off, protestors began to shout and the galleries were cleared. At the same moment, House Democrats walked to the front of the chamber and linked arms in front of the podium where the map’s House sponsor stood to introduce his bill.
State Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, blew an airhorn and shouted at the House Speaker as the map was called to a chaotic vote. The map passed, and Republican lawmakers were quickly escorted out of the House chamber by THP troopers. MAY 7
“…Republicans in Tennessee enacted a new U.S. House map that carves up a majority-Black district in Memphis, reshaping it to the GOP's advantage as part of President Donald Trump's strategy to hold on to a slim majority in the November midterm elections.” [AP News - May 7]
remember, they’re doing this bc they’re scared. if voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to take it away from us
midterms are this year. make sure they’re feeling threatened for a reason
