Summary:

A father who lost his daughter. A daughter who lost her father. Isn’t that a familiar story? Cassandra Kohen is fifteen. Cassandra Kohen is an orphan. And there is a lake. There is a lighthouse. There is a widow, a graveyard, and a keeper for them all. There is a protection broken, a binding loosed, a horror no longer soothed to rest. Arthur Lester is the death of her, over and over and over again. Arthur Lester killed her before he even met her. But this time, her death takes her by the hand and tries to protect her. He tries. There is a shadow of a god and a failure of a father and a malevolence in them all. So twist the screw, make it hurt a little more. Maybe that will fix us, or at least keep us in place a minute longer. There is beauty in the gutter, and a light in the dark. There is love, and there is grief, and there is a hand to hold despite it all. There is a girl who should be dead with no home to return to. There is a father who was the death of his daughter. There is a god who learns to adore them both. And there is the ghosts between them all.

everybody look out i'm once again thinking about that fucking part 20 poem specifically versus the information that arthur's father was a poet. no no we can just sit for a second and contemplate it. that his dad wrote poetry. or if he wasn't actively a writer during arthur's life at least still had enough appreciation for the medium to frame his favorite classics on the walls. which arthur would sit there and read to himself. and then after his parents were gone, had seemingly abandoned him, when suggested that he use art to vent, he writes his own poems addressed directly to them. and remember how in some distant far-off perfect universe his father writes poems for no greater purpose than to entertain his granddaughter. and how violently upset arthur got about the simple existence of william's train. and that thing he said about "a gift is the purest expression of love." no i'm just. i'm just asking no reason.

the fact that one of the mob guys is interested in DUNWICH as in "The Dunwich Horror" as in the one where Yog-sathoth has kids, you know Yog-sathoth the one who is also called "the lurker at the threshold" in something else I think. Threshold. Feeling normal about that.

also there's a non zero chance this could lead to Larson mpreg by Yog-sathoth confirmation in podcast which would be delightful.

This guy did a stakeout, killed a man to stop a ritualistic murder, visited his daughter, visited the morgue, went to the bookstore, divorced and remarried his seeing eye demon, got haunted by a ghost/zombie version of his dead friend, and got tangled up with mob all in a single night. It is no wonder he is falling asleep on the job because he sure isn't sleeping at night.

It's always a really great feeling to go back and re-read something you wrote and go "oh wow!! oh yay actually this is really good??"

The one downside is my instinct after "wow this is good" is to then go "wow I have to go tell people how good this is!" and now here. we have an impasse.

The main problem with Kayne is I think it'd be neat to watch him interact with a variety of characters, but that would probably turn him exploding them after 4 seconds.

The second problem with Kayne is if you prevent him from being able to kill the characters you want him to interact with, he'll be too busy freaking out about a loss of control and if he has free will to actually interact with said characters. It just entirely changes the dynamic

#malevolent #yeah... he's hard to make do anything because he's so overpowered and also Doesn't Care #the best way I figured it is to do it through Arthur. our Arthur is Kayne's Favourite Arthur so he'll restrain himself a lil #to keep this Arthur functional (gloves off for all the rest though)#so if Kayne registers someone someone's death would significantly undermine This Arthur's survival capabilities or make him less fun #he probably won't. ESPECIALLY Kayne before the blackstone home stretch #I call this the John-effect #but even the S4 crew doesn't have that kind of immunity. it works on John... Parker (assuming Arthur has all his memories)#Faroe... and maybe Bella if she was brought back. Noel and Oscar and the Butcher and Marie... Arthur has only known them a few #days. he's not going to be inconsolable with grief and guilt enough if they die horribly BECAUSE HE KNEW THEM LIKE A WEEK #and this isn't to say Kayne wouldn't use them to yank Arthur around or even pull that trigger if motivated to #or that it isn't inevitable that during the home stretch Kayne wouldn't start dumping their mutilated corpses on Arthur's lap #to 'motivate' him or otherwise torment him now that Kayne is less concerned with Arthur's survival capabilities #just that they have more wriggle room in terms of Kayne-survival #like these are moments and people Kayne might be inclined to 'play nice' with for a while #but of course some of the most interesting characters to make Kayne interact with don't have the John-effect!#Arthur probably doesn't fret about the Dollmaker or the Manager for example #and even then it's not like Kayne would be opening up to anyone #guh. gotta find some rope that can trap this entity before anything

it was annoying at the time, but in abstract it's really funny to look back on the kinds of lore questions people would ask about elden ring immediately after playing two hours of it and skipping as much dialogue as possible just so they could get in on a popular topic
