▣ Chris Sanders - director, writer, designer
Chris Sanders joined the Disney company as a character designer and storyboard artist on The Rescuers Down Under (1990). Sanders continued working on some of Disney's most notable films such as Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), and Mulan (1998) in varying roles including screenplay writer, production designer, and visual development artist. Sanders vision was finally realized in Lilo & Stitch (2002), a film he pitched, wrote, directed, and designed alongside Dean DeBlois. Lilo & Stitch was the first Disney film in decades to embrace watercolor backgrounds hoping to evoke the bright look and art direction of Dumbo (1941). All characters and set designs were highly inspired by Sanders personal artistic style.
Sanders began directing a film titled American Dog in 2006 but was taken off production shortly after John Lasseter joined Disney as Chief Creative Officer. American Dog was eventually released under the title Bolt (2008) with a new plot, characters, and art direction.
Sanders now works at Dreamworks and is credited with the massive hit How to Train Your Dragon, as well as a television series based on the film and its upcoming sequels.
