GODDAMN.
How it feels when your trusting and optimistic nature thwarts a malicious plot you weren’t even aware of
An addendum:
The strongest guy in the Magnus Archives is that one guy who was so obsessed with his dog that he just walked right out of the Spiral because it was her dinnertime
This is one of my favorite episodes. Fears can't hurt you if you're chill enough. The guy who walked in a spiral for four hours and then just left because he remembered he had somewhere to be is, to me, the avatar of the entities' fear
strongest people in the magnus archives:
guy who kept the coffin of the buried in his living room and used it as a coffee table
walked out of the spiral because his dog needed dinner
the plumber who was so inattentive that the stranger put on a whole spectacle for him and he straight-up missed it all
the guy whose primary concern with the evil taxidermists was whether or not they were money laundering (they weren't)
AND he didn’t even realize evil taxidermy was at play for the longest time because he came in like “I love and respect autistic people, of course I’m not judging eye contact”
we CANNOT forget the woman that was actively being swallowed by the buried and when there was nothing she could possibly do she lied down on the ground and accepted her fate so thoroughly and with such calm that it had to barf her back up.
we DO grow old and happy. btw.
And you find love and it stays with you.

are you guys hearing about this dude working to developing a vaccine for cats that he's hoping would like. theoretically double their lifespans?
turns out i wasn't making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called "The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty", so cats are kind of his thing.
apparently, cats' kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body's ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.
As they age, almost all cats develop kidney disease, from which they eventually die. Just as in humans, kidney disease i
Dr. Toru Miyazaki’s AIM injection for cat kidney disease enters trials in 2025, aiming for a 2027 release. Greycoat Research supports the sc
whoa wait i actually read the articles and it's so much cooler than just that!!
dude cracked the case about WHY kidneys fail, across the board as far as i can tell. turns out there's a specific molecule whose job it is to attach to waste and signal macrophages to come eat it. it remains inactive in cats for some reason, but the molecule is still there. basically what he's done is found the switch to activate them. this will be profound not only for our domestic babies, but for big cats too - especially cheetahs!
although his research was focused on cats, it's already being used to develop drugs for humans too!
on top of that, since these molecules are tags for waste, this could also dramatically lower the rate of fatty liver disease, liver cancer, urinary crystals, rheumatoid arthritis, and even some neurological cases! like, they're hoping it may have an impact on parkinson's and alzheimers, but it DOES have an impact on stroke recovery. like. holy shit.
furthermore, he's insisting that the feline drug be affordable if and when it rolls out onto the market. he wants this to be something anyone can get for their cat!! idk how much sway he'll have over the human drug, but hopefully enough that it, too, won't be that expensive.
annnnnd in his research that he's still doing for the human side of things, he's found a potential link between this molecule and estrogen. in the 20,000 samples he's tested, women between ages 10 and 29 had the highest amount of this molecule present in their blood (a higher amount means Something Fucky is going on, essentially. There's a higher amount of waste the body is trying to clean out) but it drops down to be almost equal amongst men and women after menopause. it hasn't been looked into yet, but fuck, just the fact it's noted and known and probably WILL be looked into soon??? imagine if this is what leads to figuring out all the various ways the ovaries and uterus fucks with people and how to fix it. or even like, maybe there's something about estrogen that makes it work better. who knows! but it's rad the link is there to be researched :D
man just think, not only could our kitties start living longer, healthier lives, but just maybe dialysis will become as rare and obsolete as the iron lung is for people. what a badass Dr. Toru is!
"But I don't want to turn people into dinosaurs. I wanna cure kittie kidneys!"
Worried for everyone who still hasn't learned how to pirate media with the current state of things
date idea where I teach you how to pirate, we have sex while waiting for it to download, and then we watch pirated media
It's something I knew how to do before but I've never had my own Internet up until recently. it'd be a great thing to relearn, given that I have no streaming services in the first place
the r/piracy megathread is as good a place to start as any.
If your inclination for piracy is strictly or mostly for TV and movies, and as a way to replace streaming, the stremio startup guide is a must.
Now, pull down your pants
in this case opensubtitles is your biggest ally! for everything that does not already have embedded subtitles (rare, since most things these days are ripped from streaming and come with built in subtitles) opensubtitles has the .srt for you!!! it also has a pre-installed add-on on stremio. I say this as someone who needs subtitles for everything: I've had more luck finding pirated media with subtitles than I did legally
Ah! A tricky one, while I do have resources for this, this is perhaps the least catered-to sector of piracy.
-Some blu-ray rips do have audio description tracks available. In most of the websites listed on the r/piracy subreddit, torrents come with extensive metadata info. At first it may seem like a block of text you're not interested in (it lists things like resolution, codec, fps, channels, etc.) but somewhere in the wall of text there's the info on audio and subtitles channels. Unfortunately a file having more than one English track doesn't guarantee AD, more often than not they're director/actors' commentary.
-However and luckily for everyone who is an english speaker on this earth, there's a website called audiovault.net with an extensive library of AD audio files in English for a bunch of media. I didn't go too deep into it, just downloaded Star Trek III to test it out. The audio was exactly what it said on the tin, but to state the obvious, just audio. Which is convenient if you don't care about the visuals, but for those of you who do, or intend to watch with non-visually impaired folks, this is an obvious inconvenience. So I decided to sync it with my copy of the movie on VLC, following this guide then going to tools → track synchronization to tweak the timing a bit.
Now, personally, I couldn't for the life of me sync star trek III and I stared at it in defeat for minutes until I realized that the blu-ray cut of this movie is fairly different from the one in Paramount+, as the latter starts with a brief recap of the previous movie (which I would have noticed if I paid attention to the very detailed description instead of mindlessly trying to sync it). Sure enough, I pulled the Paramount+ version and it was a perfect match. Probably ripped directly from Paramount+ in the first place. So I tried combinations of web rips (instead of blu ray rips) with the audiovault audio files, and sure enough, they either match perfectly or only need minor tweaks. This gave me immeasurable joy.
TL;DR: if you're looking to synchronize visuals with audio files from audiovault, download web rips instead of blue ray rips. You may slightly sacrifice visual quality, but save yourself much time.
That experience just confirmed the harsh reality to me: the easiest way to watch media with audio description continues to be streaming. However, when there's a will there's a way, and audiovault's library is pretty extensive, so it's at the very least worth looking into.
last note on this post I promise but with all this talk of accessibility and whatnot, I just want to say that there is no "right" and "wrong" piracy method, as long as you're doing it safely. I see a lot of people in the notes saying things like "sflix doesn't count" "stremio doesn't count" etc etc and actually?? whatever is best for your specific needs counts as long as you're avoiding a paywall 🏴☠️
maybe you're an editor or you're into preservation and just want to have the actual files of your movies and shows on your disk or flash drive or whatever? then torrenting + plex is gonna be your ideal setup.
maybe you don't want to go through all that hustle, maybe you don't have the storage, you want to try something simpler, then sflix and similar streaming websites might be your cup of tea.
still want torrent quality without compromising your storage? streaming sites have too many ads? limited catalogues? stremio is probably your guy!
and the best part is: you don't have to marry any of these methods, you can try them all! you get to pick and choose forever. piracy is all about giving YOU choices and methods to acquire things that you consider overpriced, just want to try out before committing to, are otherwise inaccessible, literally whatever reason. i've tried all of the above and am currently at a middle point between stremio and torrenting for movies and tv. are some methods higher skilled than others? more beneficial? possibly, but guess what?? nobody is gonna care. they don't want you knowing any of this anyway. however you choose to watch your media is between you and god.
While you were studying the blade, I was studying you. You're weak on your left side and your footwork could use improvement. Also I think I've fallen in love with you. Who said that.
so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god

The real thing with ADHD is not "I forgot", but that forgetting is this ongoing process. I remembered! And then I forgot.
At ten this (hypothetical) morning I remembered that I have a meeting at six. And then from 11 through 3 I worked on other stuff and had zero thoughts about that meeting. Maybe even thought about what I was gonna do with my evening at home. Got attached to the idea of taking the time to make a good dinner, maybe play some video games.
And then at three I said, "Oh! Fuck!" and remembered again, hopefully long enough to set an alarm. And then I went to the bathroom and remembered that I need to clean the counter and spent twenty minutes cleaning the bathroom and went to get a snack and then at five I said, "OH! FUCK!" and had to scramble to dress like a real adult and get out the door.
It isn't one clean forgetting. It's a constant process of forgetting and then, with an exhausting adrenaline spike, remembering. And then forgetting. Baby, I can forget the same thing more times in a day than you ever forgot your parents' anniversary.
I spent a lot of time handcuffed and in a cage in high school, for a charity bit the grocery store I worked at would do
the bit was that I was "put in jail for having too big a heart" and customers could donate to my bail to get me out (and the money would go to a children's hospital or something)
now. I was very clearly a teenaged employee handcuffed inside a large cage. and I would honestly tell people that I had been in there for hours. and people would say, that's terrible! that's awful! and I would show them my wrists red from the tight handcuffs, and say but I'm sooooooo close to making bail.
and then they would dump some cash in the basket, I'd thank them, and they'd walk away.
and every so often, one of the managers would come by and collect some of the cash, so I could keep being soooooo close to making bail.
I was very good with this bit. Parents with small kids would pay $5-10 if I told their children I had been placed in jail for not cleaning my room/doing my homework, etc. For people in their 20s, I'd threaten that I was very bad at playing the harmonica, but I WOULD play it and we'd all suffer unless they paid me. and for the most amount of money, older men in suits would almost always pay $20s if I avoided eye contact and stammered a lot.
eventually, the managers started to feel bad because I was in the cage so fucking long and often, that I'd need someone to brace me when I got out because I'd have no feeling in my legs. wobbling like a newborn giraffe.
but I would also rake in at LEAST $100 an hour in charity.
so they were like, hey champ. can we, uh, give you a pillow to sit on. in the cage. would you like a pillow so you're not just sitting on a cold metal slab. can we give you a pillow.
and I had to explain to them that if they gave me a pillow, people would think I was more comfortable, so they wouldn't feel as bad, so I'd bring in less money.
the compromise was that they'd bring me a nice coffee every couple hours, which I would have to try to block with my body from the customers.
all this money went to charity. that's what the money was for. it's what was on the sign. but how much they were willing to pay was very contingent on how comfortable I looked, never mind the fact that I was still a teenaged employee handcuffed inside a cage.
and out of the dozens of shifts I did this on, not ONCE did ANYONE say, hey kid I'm going to go talk to your manager because what the fuck is going on here. they would just drop money in the basket, and I'd thank them and sip from my secret drink.
I actually had people get MAD at me that I told them I was far away from bail, they donated like $15, and then 20 minutes I got let out because my shift ended.
again. the money was for charity. it was on the sign that was very clearly placed on the upper half of my cage.
so yeah. even when people think they mean well. people can be really, really fucking stupid.
took me a bit but this is roughly what the cage looked like, without the middle platform
It was something that was originally used in the back for carting boxes, but was repurposed into a teenager cage
they'd wheel it out and the one open side would be backed against either a wall or a large display (like very tall rows of soda boxes or something)
Then I'd get in, they'd push the thing so it would be as flush as possible against the wall, and then I'd stick my hands through the bars for them to handcuff me. there'd be a sign up top explaining the bit, and then a shopping basket tied on front for people to drop the money into.
the handcuffs were fake, and I could unlock them myself for obvious safety reasons. I would get more donations if they were tight, though.
After maybe a month or two, I asked for a harmonica to sell the bit. they also tried giving me a mug, but it was too awkward with the handcuffs. I got kind of okay at playing the harmonica, but the main point was just to do one sharp blast to startle people into looking down, and then I'd threaten that I had no idea how to play, but would do so anyway unless they donated to my bail. managers actually got me a prison jumpsuit to throw over my uniform, but it was really fucking awkward so we stopped eventually. I also got a metric fuckton of mardi gras beads so I could lure small children over, to then mournfully tell them of my imprisonment due to not cleaning my room, etc. parents would be moderately irritated that I'd lured their children over with beads, but would respect the game that I'd given their kids a whole new fear. I had some parents even ad lib what I could have been thrown in prison for. guaranteed donations.
obviously, the prison bit worked best with younger girls. my roughly 50-60 year old manager once congratulated me on doing so well with the donations because I "looked like a cute sad little puppy in one of those RSPCA commercials. like a helpless puppy or a kitten." wearing makeup and earrings also increased the rate of donations.
had to explain to another girl how I regularly got $20s, which was when an older guy in a suit walked by I'd rattle my handcuffs slightly to draw attention. 10/10 times the guy would walk over, and I had to tell this girl like. If you avoid eye contact and sound uncertain you will get at least $20. I am sorry. this is for children's cancer research.
cannot stress enough that the other employees fought to get to be in the cage. customers were so awful and the weather was so shitty. jail meant sitting down with very few expectations, talking and joking with people.
Anyway. Shit was definitely not an allegory, though it could be used as one for about 11 different things.
Still better than customer service.
