Damaya mentions there is a boy child mixed into her group of fellow children who "has no penis" and "stuffs a sock in his underwear every day", a practice accepted both by the otherwise very strict adults and also equally accepted by the otherwise relatively cutthroat peers.
She mentions him while discussing how unfair it is that the instructors treat them as though they should all be identical in their needs and wants, while there are plenty of kids present who have different and often conflicting needs due to their culture, previous trauma, or other life circumstances.
