A QUEEN
Okay, I don’t normally add on to posts but in this case I’ve got to.
Rachel Ann Bovier is a Pittsburgh legend who has been publishing her poems in city newspapers for decades. In more recent years, she started putting up these bill boards along major roads. For what reason? I have no clue. But I would often pass them on my way to Oakland for therapy. They never failed to cheer me up.
As a young trans writer, they gave me this precious little spark of joy. There was someone like me, a writer, a Pittsburgher, a trans person, who was confident enough to put their face on a bill board! I would always smile as we passed by and my mom took note.
Fast forward a few years and it’s my 21st birthday. My mom has been super excited about my gift and teased me about it over and over again. She said it was the best gift she’d ever gotten me and in many ways she was right. It was a custom poem she commissioned from Miss Bouvier! It congratulated me on my birthday, my academic success, lots of little stuff. It was simple and sweet and perfect.
I’m still not out to my parents about being trans, but that poem serves as a reminder to me that trans people are every where, they are artists, they are all ages, and their visibility is essential. So thank you to Rachel Ann Bouvier for being a great poetess and a Pittsburgh treasure!
Queer joy detected!
Actually I’m incredibly upset about how tween fashion has essentially vanished from the market. I think that the tween period is wildly important for childhood development and developing personal sense of style. Like??? I was slathering myself in green body glitter every day and wearing purple eye liner. That shit is highkey important
unfortunately i dont think its queerbaiting if the creator is just so terminally heterosexual that they never remotely considered the same gender relationship their show is centered around could be read as romantic. it is deeply painful however.
Maybe accidental queer baiting? The way someone may not mean to say something rude, but it may come off rude, so it's rude. Frustrating either way.
Not being a dick, just a friendly clarification.
By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.
There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.
That's queerbaiting.
Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.
The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.
Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.
Reblogging to keep the accurate definition and examples of queerbaiting circulating in the world
this is fucking killing me bro. computah, show me more hot hockey firefighters whaling on cops
guys, if i do kill myself and never published any books or anything please copy all my best tumblr posts and arrange them into a deeply moving stream of consciousness narrative and submit it to the new yorker on my behalf. i feel like i can count on you. don't let my life and posting have been in vain
you seem like the soft bi aroallo butch who you meet at a bar and have a one night stand with, then the next morning the person wakes up to you not being in bed, until you come up behind them and hug them from behind while just in boxers and unbuttoned flannel shirt.
okay well that's you just making shit up if I can be honest. including the butch part ??? and especially the part where I let someone sleep in my bed
in the spirit of fun I'm ranking every wrong part of this from least to most egregiously wrong
acting like "soft bi aroallo butch" is widely known category of person
met at a bar (lmao)
flannel??
BOXERS???
butch???
I let you stay the night???
in my bed where I sleep???
I seem like the bi aroallo who would not want to have sex with you tbh
sorry I know we've moved on but this is still so. fucking funny. I've spent the last two days going "wow this is so soft butch of me" whenever I do anything
wearing a button up today... never beating the soft butch allegations
thanks for asking! this was sent to me 200% unprompted
Okay, you know what? Given that over the last week I have seen at least one of the common myths of "things you should not do in the heat" come over my dashboard, let us quickly go over this:
If it is hot, you will need to drink more than normally because you are sweating. You can drink too much, though usually your body knows how to regulate it.
Yes, if it is liquid and not alcoholic it counts to your drinking intake. Yes, drinking lemonades, coke and whatever counts. All of it is still mostly water with some sugar and flavors added. It is fine. Be careful about taking in too much caffeine though, as it is a mild diuretic (means it makes you pee more and hence lose more water).
Yes, you also need electrolytes as you sweat them out. But you do not need to drink sports drinks. Eat some yoghurt with fruits, or some watermelon with salt, or maybe cold soup. It will refill your electrolytes.
No, it is not dangerous for you to sleep in front of a ventilator. This is a complete myth that has absolutely no basis in science whatsoever and literally originates with an Urban Legend. Especially with the recent heat wave in Europe for a lot of people the alternative is the possibility of heat stroke. It is fine. Sleep in front of that ventilator. Just make sure you are not getting too cold.
No, using sunscreen does not stop you from taking in Vitamin D, unless you are permanently using super high standard sun screen and are reapplying it every 6 hours as intended. And let's face it: you are not. Your skin gets enough UVB to make Vitamin D, don't worry about it. Skin cancer is worse.
Yes, switching between a very hot outside and a very cold context (be it super high AC or just jumping into cold water) can be a danger for your cardiovascular system, though unless the weather is very hot or the water very cold making the contrast very extreme, it is normally not a danger to people who do not have otherwise issues with their cardiovascular system. Though being a bit careful and allowing yourself to acclimatize is not a bad idea in general.
Yes, you should definitely not leave any living thing in a car while it is hot. Just don't. Cars heat up while standing very quickly and will become a death trap. If you leave an animal or a child alone in the car for even just 5 to 10 minutes, they might die. Don't do that shit.
Yes, you need to be extra careful about your medications. For once, most medications are not meant to be stored at above 25°C (don't ask me what this is in American units). But also a bunch of medications - especially psychoactive medications - will make your body worth at temperature regulation. So be careful.
Yes, you need shadow. Ideally the shadow of trees, because there is indeed a difference between that and the shadow of a building. But any shadow is good, especially during extreme heat.
In the same vein: be also careful about drugs during heat waves - like, the recreational type. Some of them work differently when your body is warmed up like that. Just... ideally read up online on possible side effects that might occur/be worse if taken during the heat.
Generally speaking: stay hydrated. Stay cool. Try to do it as well as you can in your respective situation. Stay safe.
For the record, 25 degrees Celsius is 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wait, is there a typo in the second-to-last bullet point? I would have thought the only difference between treeshade and building shade would be that the trees are worse because they let more sunlight through; am I missing something?
You are missing evaporation. Trees are alive and full of water, which constantly evaporates, making shadow underneath trees in general cooler than the shadow of buildings. This is also the reason why people are pushing for green cities, because anything green is lowering the temperature - and of course also green usually comes along with some natural ground which is better at heat exchange than concrete and helps breaking up heat islands.
So I messed up a bit while I was horny and on benadryl and agreed to shower sex with a friend, and like I haven't even had regular in bed sex yet and now that I'm in a normal brain, I really don't want to shower with another person at all until I get my chest cut off and I'm really not sure how to say that to them
I mean the same way you'd cancel any other other plans you regret making
people are so weird about cnc and I always just want to look them in the eyes and say “you are getting mad at people for playing pretend. you are getting mad at people for saying ‘raaar! I’m gonna getcha!’ you are not a serious person.”
so much ink and tears have been spilled theorizing that rape kink is about trauma and social anxieties and power fantasies and sure maybe. but I think we’re just mammals who like pretend danger in our play just like every other mammal ever. because we have evolved to find that fun. and the only difference between play-wrestling in bed and pulling out the fuzzy handcuffs is commitment to the bit
showing up to the orgy and someone yells NOSE GOES
whoever the dom gets off first has to be the next dom
You would think that in a world full of violent mass media people would be more reasonable about sexual roleplay but a lot of people seem to think if sex is involved then playing pretend reflects some kind of True Desires in a way that pretending to kill people in a video game or a story you're writing doesn't.
said this before, but most bondage is a form of light cnc and it is somewhat concerning that the deeply aggrieved don't notice/think of it that way
Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
Hit "view post" and lost it
genuinely if it becomes a film making trend to adapt 4chan/reddit posts into movies i think we should ban the moving image
ok one exception
"masculinity is rewarded in women" "masculinity is accepted in women"
I had a friend who woke up at 4am to shower and apply makeup and everything. Lost literally sleep just to do this, wasted at least 3 hours each day. One day, she didn't feel like it and went to work without makeup. Her boss, a woman, pestered her all day and wanted to send her home. She never went to work without makeup again
The daughter of an acquaintance went to a nice school and sang in a choir there for years. Was very good, went to every concert. When she was about 15, she cut her hair. She still agreed to wear the mandatory gown even though she was a "tomboy". She just loved choir. School banned her from representing school. Because of her hair. Because girls should have long hair or the "aesthetics" were off
I'm not a woman or female but I'm read as such and whenever I have a buzzcut, strangers I've barely spoken to just try to touch it. Touch my head. Just reach out and caress my head without asking. Because they "want to know what it feels like"
Women who don't perform femininity (correctly) get harassed and their bodily autonomy taken away. They get bullied and touched without consent. They get everything commented on (if you think "brave" is a compliment you've never had it used on you)
If you don't think that femininity is enforced, and often violently, you're either a moron or you have no good intentions
In any case, I'm just not interested in what you have to say
