Shopping for second-hand fashion ‘could prevent carbon emissions’

Oxfam has launched its annual campaign Second Hand September, which encourages people to shop second-hand and donate to charity shops.

"Shopping for second-hand fashion could prevent carbon emissions equivalent to those produced by 261,000 flights to Greece, analysis from Oxfam suggests."

"The charity cited figures from the Waste and Resources Action Programme, which estimates that the average adult wardrobe consists of 118 items.

Oxfam said that if half of those items were bought second-hand, it would prevent 12.5 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide created by manufacturing new clothes from entering the atmosphere – equivalent to that produced by 261,000 flights from London Heathrow to Athens."

Sexual orientation and gender identity are innate; people have no more control or choice over them than they do their eye color, handedness, place of birth, etc. It’s long past time to do away with archaic, disproven, and harmful beliefs. It is NOT a “lifestyle choice”, “an abomination”, “disgusting”, “unnatural”, “degenerates”, or a “sin”. LGBTQIA people have the right to live their lives free of discrimination, ignorance, fear, shame, and violence. People’s civil rights, safety, dignity, and humanity are much more important than your “deeply held religious beliefs” are. LGBTQIA people exist and are valuable members of society.
