senior year spring break. 2015. night. very late, or very early depending on how you put it. me and three guy friends. smoking weed out of a lemon cos we had no pipe and forgot to ask the others to buy some apples, trying not to let the ocean breeze blow out our lighter. my first time smoking weed. before, I was too scared.

the guy who brought the weed was too paranoid; another guy who hadn’t smoked in a while just acted more chill; the last guy (his first time too) kept saying he didn’t feel anything, but was obviously high. I didn’t actually feel anything, but said nothing.

one time I lit the weed (no idea what correct terminologies are here) and it stayed lit enough for us to pass the lemon around 9 times before we had to light it again. they called me the master.

by the time we got back home, it was even way later (or earlier), and the guys went right to bed after some munchies. I didn’t even feel hungry, but was worried the other girls would freak if they smelled me. wanted to sleep straight away, but instead took a shower first to get rid of the scent. finally went to bed around 5:30 in the morning.

always will remember this when I see a lemon now.

Islamic Art

Most everyone is familiar with geometry and patterns.  The above image by Richard Henry is included here to give some mathematical frame of reference.  The artistic emphasis of these ideas gained prominence due to certain religious rules in Islamic religious texts forbidding the portrayal of human forms in worship.  Additionally, the advanced mathematical discoveries in the middle east brought about some wonder toward the patterns of these ideas.  The underlying message in such geometries, within the Islamic context, is the infinite and natural power of God.  It is important to note that ideas like zero, our decimal counting system, and algebra originated from India and the middle east.  Arabic calligraphy is also similarly celebrated and made the subject of  many past and current Islamic art.
