Fashion x Style x History | Bricoleur | "In 1987 I purchased the same crocodile loafers for $650 in Georgetown. These images represent major articles that were essential to my uniform of choice during the 80s. I always had Guess jeans, I preferred the ones with the leather on the back. Thinking back these were things foreign to our parents and we were just beginning to embark on becoming absorbed into elitist white culture but throwing our own soulful spin on it. I also loved the Elmer Fud style fitted baseball caps that Britches the great outdoors sold. They came in cotton red, denim blue, cotton green, cotton red, blue wool, and maybe red wool. Those caps were so so nice. This was between 1984 and 1988. The clothes that we were wearing made us feel like bosses. And the way we transformed these garments designed for a white audience, totally upset the white elite in the metropolitan area. They would be taken aback when they saw us shopping in Saks, Lord and Taylor, and Garfinkles. And our wild and colorful antics causes them to gag even more! This was the first time in history perhaps that high school age black kids from the inner city were flooding Georgetown and downtown as customers. We were creating a brand new market for designers who never saw us coming" as told by Anthony McKissic | #fashion #style #history #dc #dcornothing #dmv #georgetown
