keep thinking about those screenshots of buck's house after bobby died. no flowers. no one sent him flowers because it wasn't his dad who died, not really. just like chris leaving wasn't his son leaving, not really. eddie going to texas wasn't his partner leaving, not really. buck occupies all of these spaces unofficially and he knows who he is to them but when they leave he's always, always left with nothing. again. most important relationships of his life and he's empty-handed and wondering if he'd imagined it all in the first place.

And it’s all happening in a home that’s his but not really while he contemplates moving fire houses because it’s just a house and not a home without everyone there. And he spent a month with so much stuff, a whole life, packed in boxes, just to look so joyful moving in. And all of that stuff, even the accents and the flourishes, the throw pillows, the kitchen utensils, the things that made this house, that he’s not really been a guest in, his, all of it is gone in the wake of Bobby’s death. Like he channeled his grief into cleaning and clearing away any joy that he found there because it was too hard to look at. Too much when he’s always too much, yet never enough. Only for the season to end with all Eddie’s clutter in disarray, taking up all the space, while Buck’s life is packed away, again, always again and again and again, with no where to go. He spent years on the road with no goal in mind: the point is to go. Until he got to LA and made a life and a family, that’s his but not really, not outside his own chest. And when has what Buck’s had inside him ever been enough to save people, to keep people?
