im not gonna sit here and say "if youre conflict averse youre a huge pussy fuck you" because i recognize generally people avoid conflict because of fear, anxiety, and past negative experiences - but i really would encourage people to start learning how to call their friends out on things without it being some horrible, drama-starting, friendship-ending ordeal. anyone who is friends with me will tell you i have an ability to swiftly correct or point out something somebody has said as being bigoted, hurtful, or incorrect - and they will also tell you i do not hold a grudge nor do i make the exchange hostile or accusatory! it's a skill, sure, but it's genuinely a much easier skill than i think a lot of people realize. but i think it's one of, if not the most, important interpersonal skill anyone can ever have.
truly my biggest advice is to open up with "hey, i'm not mad/i'm not attacking you/i'm not ending our friendship over this/whatever" basically everytime. i'm personally somebody with crazy anxiety and trauma and can react with panic when somebody comes to ME with a concern, so i try and extend to others how id want them to treat me in conflict too. direct and honest but with reassurance that theyre tellng me this BECAUSE they like me and want to keep it that way.
So crazy how you have the worst day of your life but then the next day the sun keeps shining and the air’s just a little cooler w the onset of fall and you realize that there’s nothing you can’t come back from because the only time it will ever be too late is when we’re dead and not ever before
I vividly remember talking to one of my favorite professors about how I’m scared things will fall apart after graduation and how I’m so unused to change and her just going “if things fall apart then they do and u just pick up the pieces and start over again and it’s fine. Things falling apart is not this mammoth fear u should be worried about” and I remember these words every time I want to pursue or seize something bc literally the worst thing that can happen is it doesn’t work out ….. and then I just pick up the pieces and start all over again

it's all very well to say "friends are just as important as romantic partners" but in practice this simply is not the case lmao. you can share a flat with a friend but it's expected that sooner or later that friend will meet someone and will move out to go live with that person instead. if you're hanging out with friends you can bring your partner along but your friends can't come on a date night with you because that's third-wheeling and it's weird. you can know somebody for most of your life and still be second-best to some guy they met on tinder 6 months ago. you're meant to just accept without question the fact that your friends will prioritise time with their partners over time with you. being single is treated like a problem that needs to be fixed. we casually use expressions like "just friends" or "more than friends". everything we read and watch reinforces the idea that romantic love is what gives life meaning and therefore your life is meaningless without it. i try to keep my chin up but my god it is bleak out there

Every time I explain I have Long Covid, people are like, 'So, you never got over having covid? So you're going to have a cold forever?'
And I get when we were in the pandemic, we all developed anxiety so severe we were afraid to touch our produce from the grocery store without wiping it down first. But the idea of Covid as "just a cold" is not the full story. That's mostly something that got pushed from people who didn't understand it, and as shorthand to explain the warning symptoms to people. Long Covid is not a cold. If I get one more person talking down to me about how I'll feel better if I just take a Vitamin C capsule every morning, I will riot.
Long Covid is currently not curable. It's manageable in the right circumstances. But there is currently no pill or therapy that is a cure for Long Covid. That includes lifestyle habits too. Maybe drinking a smoothie made out of half the vegetable aisle will be good for you, but it won't fix you magically. Please stop suggesting therapies to people. You're not their doctor, and all you're going to do is exasperate them. Worst case scenario, you put someone through another cycle of grief after they try it, and it doesn't work for them.
Why is that the case? Because Long Covid is highly complicated. Most doctors will acknowledge we don't know the half of it, as far as the complete effects. Long Covid, in short, is a very confusing amalgamation of the after-effects of getting Covid in the first place. Many experts have compared it to HIV in the way it continues to affect your body. That's why Long Covid is officially known as "Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection." Sequelae refers to the long-term or permanent effects aspect of it. It's a highly complicated thing that would most likely not be easily cured. Just like how someone recovered from severe Tuberculosis might still have issues with their lungs, people with Long Covid have to deal with the aftermath of Covid throughout their bodies.
Please stop trying to tell me, and people like me that it will just heal itself eventually. You're only frustrating people who've been dismissed so much already. Parts of it may get better with time, but the complete effect on your body is devastating and traumatic. Saying things like 'Well I did x,y, and z, and I feel totally better!' That's great, good for you. That doesn't mean it's going to work for everyone, let alone most people. Understand that it's a confusing illness. And please, for heavens sake, stop asking people 'So when are you going to get better?' We don't know. That's the point.
Concept: Depressing dystopian factory where everything is gray and samey and the workers are called by their employee numbers by an ominous deep voice.
But it's a really great place to work with high salaries, excellent benefits, and a flexible working schedule with plenty of paid leave. They just like the dystopian aesthetic.

I wrote another short story and this one is very short so it is definitely normal. It has no space to be weird.
How to escape the well
The responses to this story are all "it's enjoyable but not fucked up" or "HOW THE FUCK DARE YOU" with absolutely no in between. Which I think tells us all who is in a well and who isn't.

Kind of interesting that there’s overlap in the aspec and poly spaces
one of my biggest writing hacks is writing with my eyes closed. something about not being able to see the words on the screen or even if i'm spelling them right helps my overthinking writer brain to melt away and let something else take over. the words FLY when i have my eyes closed, and the scene appears much clearer in my head. i truly feel like i am there with the characters, and it always helps me go so much faster.
if you're a writer who can type with their eyes closed, i highly recommend giving it a try!
I did a similar thing when I was writing in school and didn’t want anyone to see what I was working on—I set the font to white and turned spell check off!
