the way collie is often characterized in parkovitch is so disgusting and i hate when people try to use the book as a shield for their blatant racism because collie has literally never been mean. like he’s gruff at most. even in the book he was among the top 3 kindest boys there. the last solid food he ever ended up eating he shared with garraty because he believed he’d hurt his feelings the day before. in addition to that he apologizes when he recognizes he’d done so. he wanted to save the other guys still left. he was scared and homesick and thought that all of them were too far from home land he wanted to be able to get them home. which is why it’s so evil to try to hide behind his book characterization to excuse making him a racist caricature of himself who serves solely as a love interest who’s only somewhat complex feelings go back to that racist blond demon

personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished
