It's time to say goodbye.
When one makes less-informed decisions early in life, the consequences can follow you for years. These types of decisions push us to make hard choices and to re-evaluate life priorities which ultimately leads to what makes us happy.
It’s time to say goodbye to my records. If I sell them all myself over the next year or two I will be able to pay off my educational loans, credit card debt, and save the rest for a down payment on a house. I was never taught much about finances and debt, but experience and educating myself over the years has led to this decision.
Records are just stuff. I even know they aren’t technically best sounding format (that “warmth” is just distortion). I’ve never really used the “I like the ritual and holding music in my hands” line of thinking. I’m a fan of music and it’s not going anywhere. I have 4TB+ of music to tide me over. Once I hit 2000 albums, I would just look at them and be overwhelmed. Everything I have I truly enjoy and I also habe hundreds of records on wish lists. There would be no end.
I’m not trying to be a minimalist, but I’m trying to lead a life that makes me happy to the core. Owning copious amounts of media does not make me happy. Modern technology allows me to have media when I want without occupying the physical space around me. I want to be debt free and have my own home. For me, those two things would be a great foundation for the rest of my life and happiness.
If life allows it, maybe I can buy records again in the future in a responsible manner. I can always buy more stuff.
So, it will all be sold. It will be an arduous yet therapeutic process.
If you live in or near Nashville, I’d like to sell to you directly as opposed to the hassle of online selling. I may post a link to my eBay when stuff goes up.
Perhaps Tyler Durden was correct when he said, “The things you own end of owning you.” Thanks for following this Tumblr and enjoying the album art.
TL;DR - I have a ton of records but now want to sell them because real-life adult decisions have to be made.
