Tell me in the tags what’s the worst mundane thing to ever happen to you. Nothing terribly traumatizing or with lasting consequences; something that was devastating in the moment but now in hindsight is kinda charming.
I’ll go first: one time our dishwasher broke on Thanksgiving on a year we hosted. Everyone else had already left. We were doing dishes until 11pm.
Sometimes I see someone on here express a pop culture take on which I agree with the fundamentals, but with such a level of vociferous frothing hatred that it gives me a brief , terrifying mirror-darkly insight into what a diseased, vindictive maniac I must come across as when I really go off the handle about this stuff- which then allows me to moderate my own behavior accordingly in the direction of the kind of person I’d want to spend time around. 2) Who’s your OCs best friend? How did they become best friends?
Nereo: He becomes close with so many of his companions, but Arueshalae’s becomes a friendship that is very special and dear to him. They meet when he is really in a dismal point of his journey as knight-commander; not quite effective enough to feel secure in his post, uncertain of his judgments, and still thinking about Neelah’s betrayal (and Woljif’s departure but that’s a more nuanced topic, as Woljif was always free to leave; Neelah actively conspired against him and she said mean things to him, and he counted her as a friend!).
Meanwhile Arueshalae is struggling with her own redemption, to the point that she hasn’t even embarked on that journey just yet. She had no reason to earnestly hope for change until now. He gives her that hope. In turn, her counsel is invaluable for him, especially in Alushinyrra, where he goes through some very low points. But she doesn’t mince words about what this journey will take from him. She knows the Abyss well and she’ll help him escape its clutches. They’ll escape together.
6) If your OC is in a fantasy setting, what profession would they be in the modern day?
Nereo: SNILES SO WIDE. I do have a modern day human AU kicking around in my head, where Nereo is in a goth metal band with @thetangledsheet’s KC Qesar and her sister Raxa. I intend to draw little things for it once time allows.
25) Are they the kind of person who can’t resist a good song? Can I catch your OC singing to themselves while they do the dishes?
Nereo: He loves music, but his voice is rough and raspy from an injury when he was young. Can’t carry a tune for shit. But he loves listening to it… when enjoying a performance he’ll hum along very quietly so as to not offend. I do have a childhood friends to lovers Woljif/Nereo AU where his injury does not happen, and he, Woljif, and Ember are buskers and thieves in Kenabres.
I love that this scene is happening now, with Azune breaking down about how he can't do this anymore, he can't keep living a lie, he can't keep serving others, how he wants to be remembered as the person he was before he killed anyone, because as Brennan pointed out, Azune's just re-encountered Mayali. He's had that very stark reminder of who he used to be and who he's become and that combined with the stress he's been under just broke him

Yanessa Halovar's theatre intervention is a commentary on racial and social politics implicated in art in a time of religiously motivated authoritarian takeover, and it is a very incisive one at that. It is also an exposing of the endpoint of the logic behind "we are uncomfortable when we are not about me???" type of evaluations of art. We individually may not have the systemic weight of an oppressive religious organization backing our grumbling to this end, but it does stem from a similar framework of instrumentalization and entitlement.
Thinking about Tsul'rekshi saying that Tyranny's knife is meant to punish those who hurt the ones who love them, and that it's ability to look into the thoughts of others is meant to illuminate that goal. This explains why the knife seems to bias towards illuminating relationships to her (it showed her key moments between both Kattigan and Marienna and Kattigan and Teor): it shows people interacting with those who love them so as to allow Tyranny to judge how those whose thoughts she's peering into have acted towards those people.
That also tracks with the moment Tyranny saw when she first attuned to it; one of Jasavi using the knife to cut food small enough for one of her daughters to eat. It's showing a moment of true love and caring; a mother using a blade with the hopes that this thing she loves more than anything will grow up strong. This blade first saw use in service of deep love, so it makes sense in the hands of a demon this blade transformed into something meant to punish those who subvert those relationships.
