Google Ambient Chaos if you ever need background noises for writing! It's a customizable soundscape website.

Anon, when I first saw this ask, I thought it was going to be one of those mixers of nice, traditional sounds, like rain or a coffeeshop. And it is! And there's lofi hiphop, my favorite sound to write to! Which means this is legitimately an excellent tool for writers, and I love you for introducing it to me.

But I also want to say. There are some choices here. That I need to point out. Because they're either fantastic or questionable, and I can't decide.

Things like . . .

Couple arguing.

Medieval battle.

Beehive, where you can write to a fuckton of bees.

Crime scene.

And actually the perfect soundscape for NaNoWriMo.

I am going to assume that most people have heard of the crab day proposal by now but if you haven't;

Crab day is an event proposed by tumblr users wherein we buy and gift dashboard crabs on the 29th of July as a concentrated effort to get staff to at least listen to us about how we're willing to spend our money on this webbed site. It will not, as originally stated, erase tumblr's debt as that is A Lot of money and I don't about you but I personally have very little perspective on the cost of running a large media company but I'm pretty sure it's not that simple.

That being said it is essentially three things; 1) a donation drive, to keep the site running and show support for the things we actually like, 2) an attention-grabbing stunt, to bring notice to the users that are the actual lifeblood of tumblr and to tell staff a little louder that the other things they are doing and planning are stupid and we don't want them, and 3) a show of solidarity among users. We're here for tumblr. Not for a twitter clone, not for a tiktok substitute, and not for paywalled features.

So if you've stuck with me through that, do you plan to participate in crab day?

i think that every child should have unrestricted access to thick blackberry brambles or some other delicious fruit that grows encased in a painful fortress. i think wading through thorns to reach the cluster of shining ripe berries you spied through a gap between the tangled vines teaches you something important. not sure what though
