Hi folks, I want to try getting my feet wet with commissions but my turnaround time can be pretty variable, so I'm starting with really simple and quick ones.

which is a pretty great deal! I know I've got a lot of mutuals with oc legacies; you could get the entire legacy done for less than a bad trip to the dollar store. The color and 'medium' (brush type) are your choice; the choices used below are pink for color and rough charcoal for medium, respectively. Your sketch will be cleaned up slightly, and will have major details and basic shading. It will be intentionally, stylistically, loose compared to a finished rendered piece. Here to model this kind of sketch for us is @grandninjamasterren 's oc, Ivanye.

It absolutely kills me that Hamas and other Islamic extremist groups have been able to manipulate the language of the Western Left so efficiently to the point where they've erased Jewish history and trauma in MENA from their collective minds. All of these white and/or Palestinian activists online screaming GENOCIDE and EVIL WHITE COLONISERS and GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM have absolutely no idea - or just don't care - about the plight of Jews from Middle Eastern and Arab countries throughout the 20th century.

My grandparents were Karaite Jews who lived in Cairo. We've traced their lineage back to the 1400s in Egypt. they FELT Egyptian, they were PROUD of being Egyptian first and foremost, Jewish second. Then after Israel was formed and King Farouk was overthrown by Nasser, Egypt purged its Jewish population and told them to go back to where they came from - JUDEA. ISRAEL.

My grandparents' family was stripped of their lands, their wealth, their citizenship. they were made Stateless. they applied to come to Australia but were rejected the first time because Australia and other Western countries had caps on how many Jewish immigrants they were allowing in. So they had no choice but to go to Israel. Half of my extended family is still there. the other half moved to America and Australia. but for the relatives who are still there, in Israel, the homeland of all Jews worldwide - they have no other citizenship, they don't belong anywhere else in the world except the country where they have lived for 70 years and four generations. Where else are they supposed to go? Back to the country that treated them like second-class citizens and exiled them? Israel is not and has never been a colonist state, it was a refugee state for millions of Jews who were told they were not welcome in Europe or the Middle East or America or Canada or Australia. It was the original land-back to indigenous persons, the triumph of a people reclaiming their homeland. The Al-Aqsa Mosque was built ON TOP OF the Second Temple. What is that, if not Arab colonialism?

And you, you ignorant parrots who have swallowed the propaganda and lies of Hamas and others who would see us exterminated from not just the Middle East but from the face of the Earth - you have succeeded in rewriting Jewish history and denying us our self-determination and right to our ancestral homeland. You have betrayed and failed us. You only believe in land-back and indigenous reclamation when it isn't Jews.

I'm not 100% sure how to articulate this, but something that has been bothering me about I/P discourse (especially in the last month, it's gotten so much worse) that I haven't seen talked about in a productive way is the "yoking" effect that the extremist ugly takes create for the good-faith people just trying to talk about their issues. And I see it on both sides, and have felt compelled to act this way myself.

Essentially, when I talk about antisemitism (especially the significant spike in the last month), my goal is focused on educating people about the antisemitism and urging them to do something about their own behavior, help groups that are working on it, and/or become part of the people working on advocacy to that effect. I just want to talk about the antisemitism, and have that stand as a topic on its own terms. But the problem is, I'm a Jew and extremists on both sides have made it so that anything I post about this requires disclaimers that I also support the rights, freedoms, and care about the lives of Palestinians also. And I do! But that's not the point. The point is that Jews facing antisemitism should be able to talk about this without bringing in a whole separate topic to prove we're worth listening to. And I saw this with Israelis trying to talk about the grief they were feeling after the Hamas pogrom; they couldn't do it without either including some kind of statement about wanting peace, separating Hamas from Palestinians as a whole, etc. or face relentless antisemitic abuse.

And this effect comes both from outside people [supposedly] supporting Palestine being awful unless the Jew in question attaches sufficient disclaimers, as well as [supposedly] pro-Israel people who couldn't help themselves from spouting off dumb racist shit in their posts on otherwise valid topics.

But as I've watched things play out, and Western outsiders become more and more antisemitic in their [supposed] support of Palestine, I've noticed Palestinians and their not-antisemitic allies having to couch their [valid] criticisms of Israel with caveats about how antisemitism is not okay, or else face harassment when talking about their legitimate issues - even ones that aren't about Israel at all.

That's what I mean by "yoking" - this inability to talk about ourselves and our own issues without bad faith actors coercing us to address the other and "prove" that we're worth listening to. It's dehumanizing, because it means that our legitimate issues are always and only ever able to be discussed in the shadow of the other. They aren't allowed to stand on their own without risking harassment.

Anyway, I think the reasons we got here are complicated, but I lay most of the blame at the feet of uninvolved westerners using this conflict as a proxy for their own problems. I don't know that there's a way to fix this at this point, either, because the discourse has become so unbelievably toxic. I think the closest thing I've got is just the suggestion that if you see a Palestinian (or ally) talking about Palestinian issues and not being antisemitic about it, don't derail what they're saying even if they don't specifically denounce Hamas outright and/or antisemitism in their post. And if Jews (including and especially Israelis) are talking about antisemitism and/or legitimate issues and aren't being racist or Islamophobic about it, don't derail what we're saying even if we don't offer caveats denouncing the Israeli government and/or Islamophobia/anti-Arab racism in that specific post.

We can support each other in the face of danger and want peace without having to constantly be forced to talk about other issues and divert focus from our own issues.

I also want to add some information for anyone who wants to know more about recognizing the signs that you might be in a high control group.

High control groups can be small or large, religious or not, clubs, schools, online servers, friend groups, etc.

No human is invulnerable because we all have brains and emotions that can be played like a fiddle. Knowing the red flags can help us all keep ourselves safer!

Reminder that steam is not only "no longer supporting windows 7" ,. they will be actively disabling all clients on this OS by end of this year. No, you can't run offline. No, you can't run the games standalone. The official steam position is go fuck yourself. Their reasoning is due to intertwinement with some google features, which imo is just making it even fucking worse, because why the fuck do google need to be involved in me playing a game I bought in 2013? And why do they get to say I can no longer access this game?

If you want a workaround, hit up this but in future, just use GOG.
