The Death of Osiris

Before Osiris became God of the Afterlife, he first ruled Egypt. During this time, he taught humans agriculture, and even gave them laws and civilisation.

His brother, Seth, was jealous of his rule and plotted to kill Osiris. Upon killing him, Seth cut his brother into tiny parts to scatter all over Egypt. With Osiris dead, Seth became King of Egypt with his wife, and sister, Nepthys at his side. Nepthys felt sorry for her sister, Isis, Osiris' sister and wife, as she wept for her lost husband.

Iris set out to find her missing husband with her sister Nepthys, travelling the country and collecting Osiris' body parts to at least have a child with her husband. She reassembled Osiris, holding his body parts together by wrapping them in white linen, and breathed the breath of life to resurrect him long enough for Isis to become pregnant.

Soon after, Isis was able to have their son Horus. Osiris then descended into the Underworld, becoming the God of the Afterlife.

Other versions of the myth mention that Seth trapped Osiris in a chest and threw it into the Nile. When the body was discovered by a mourning Isis, she resurrected her husband and called upon their son Horus to slay Seth.

in times of stress or dissociation, rub your thumb in small circles on the back of your other hand to ground and soothe. (clockwise for attracting an intention, counterclockwise for banishing)

I am NOT a Perfect Witch

I’ve seen a few asks/comments running around about how the witches of Tumblr seem to have all their ducks in a row and do magic spells 24/7 and are generally “perfect” because of it. I can tell you this is probably not the case. At least for me its not. I am not a Perfect Witch. I don’t rigorously follow the phases of the moon, most of the time i forget anyways. I don’t do spells on a regular basis (at least not what i consider to be spells) Heck most of the time the most witchy things i do is reblog stuff to this tumblr.  So for newbie witches and hidden witches please understand: It’s completely okay to not be a “perfect” witch. Once you’ve discovered that you’re a witch you don’t have to cast spells 24/7 in order to protect your title. The Title of Witch is yours as soon as you decide you want to Claim It. No one can or should tell you how to run your path. That is something you will have to discover for yourself, and honestly that’s the best part of the journey. So you forgot a sabbat, big whoop. Sabbats come and go and i rarely do anything for them anyways (maybe halloween but thats tradition haha) Another full moon pass you by? That’s okay, some people don’t like working with the moon and that’s also okay. Try casting a spell and you don’t think it worked? Trust me i still do spells and most of the time they don’t work too. So to all the newbies and hidden witches: Do not fret. You have plenty of time to come into your path and please please please do not feel like you HAVE to be perfect in your path. I am proud to follow my path with all its bumps and turns it throws at me

a spell jar to manifest good vibes all year long

ingredients:

salt - charging the spell

cayenne - catalyst, manifestation

rosemary - protection

lavender - peace

thyme - love

cinnamon - success

bay leaf - wishes come true

basil - prosperity

sage - wisdom

orange peel - happiness

instructions:

cleanse your jar however you'd like - i wash my stuff with soap and water, wipe the inside out with moon water, and then dry completely (moisture + dried herbs = mold)

add salt and cayenne to the jar, first, to act as a foundation for the spell

then add the rest of the ingredients with the intent to bring each thing into your life in the new year

seal with wax, a ribbon, or however you'd like

place somewhere visible in your home - mine stays atop my altar :)

Upsetting a Deity (You Probably Haven't!)

Upsetting a Deity A lot goes around about upsetting a deity, but the chances are you haven’t! Deities won’t be upset about little mistakes or being unable to pray because you’re having a flare-up. They understand and they care. Most likely, they would want you to be well and safe. It would take a LOT for a deity to be upset in a significant way.

Upsetting a Deity example In Hellenism, you must be clean before offering or communicating with a deity. We should all research thoroughly, but sometimes things are missed, so not washing your hands before offering food may not be looked upon favourably. However, you can learn from this and embed it into future practice. Apologise for the mistake and move on, dwelling will only make things harder for you and your relationship with the deity.

What if I didn’t give them an offering today? That’s okay. Give your deity an offering when you next can. You don’t have to give offerings daily, or on any set timescale. If you can’t do offerings at all, that’s fine too. There is no must for offerings!

What if I just realised my old actions were disrespectful? Then you’re learning and that’s great. Let’s remember that deities aren’t human, their stances wouldn’t be like ours. Apologise for your past mistakes and move forward. If you’d like to build a relationship with that deity, begin doing so with your new found knowledge on being as respectful as you can be.

But I made a promise that I couldn’t fulfil? Try avoiding making promises you can’t keep, especially specific promises. Try making a loose promise, so rather than a set time for a specific offering, promise to do it when you next get the chance. Deities understand that things change. As long as you intend to fulfil your promise at the time you make it, they know your intention was there. If it didn’t happen, do it when you next can.

But I feel bad anyway, how can I fix things? If you feel bad or would just like to do something to make it up to the deity, do what you would normally do. Apologise, honour them, provide an offering, and share how you have learnt from the experience. A small mistake or getting something wrong will not have an everlasting impact on you.

The deity isn’t responding properly to me anymore! Are you communicating with a clear mind? Your emotions and mindset impact how you communicate and may be overriding the responses or even how you interpret them. Take a break, realise you can apologise and move on, and relax. When you’re in a calmer mindset, try again.

What if they don’t want me to worship/work with them anymore? How do you know this? Deities are deities, they want to be worshipped. I can assure you, the chances are you haven’t done anything bad enough to where a deity no longer wants you to worship/work with them. Like before, take a break, apologise, relax, and move on. Communicate about topics when you’re in the right mindset to do so.

So I can do anything and the deities won’t be upset? No. Like before, deities are deities. They are divine. They see your intentions, they know when you’re being truthful, respectful, and honest. Don’t try to fool them or purposefully disrespect them, you will not be granted their favour by doing this. Likewise, do try avoid making promises, oaths, and similar, that you know there’s a chance you might not be able to keep.

Simple but Potent Traditional Banishing Spell

It is the holiday season and a time of parties. If you have had a visitor whose energy was toxic, this is how you can cleanse your house of their footprint and make sure they never come back.

With a handful of sea salt in your dominant hand, open your front door with your other hand.

Then speak the person's full name with contempt, as you throw the salt outside the door as if it's the ashes of someone you despise.

Close the door and lock it, chanting once, "Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas".

Do not sweep away the salt. Let the wind, rain or snow take care of it. Wait until most of it is gone before cleaning your porch.

The spell is done and so is that little bitch.

You should be starting a recipe book. I don't give a shit if you're only 20-years-old. The modern web is rotting away bit by bit before our very eyes. You have no idea when that indie mom blog is going down or when Pinterest will remove that recipe. Copy it down in a notebook, physically or digitally. Save it somewhere only you can remove it. Trust me, looking for a recipe only to find out it's been wiped off the internet is so fucking sad. I've learned my lesson one too many times.

What is Banishing? The How-Tos and Methods

Banishing is a direct form of expelling energy or spirit from your space. Used to get rid of a specific energy, spirit, or person. Can even be used to banish a bad habit if you really wanted to. It is a strong form of defensive magic versus cleansing which is more of a brush out the door. Banishing is you picking whatever up by the scruff like a wet cat and throwing it out the window.

You can incorporate cleansing and banishing methods together. Make it spicy, get the job done in one go.

Here are some banishing methods that are within my grimoire.

Spiritual

Smoke - Burning Dragons Blood, Frankincense, Hyssop, Rue, Cedar, Juniper, Blackberry Leaves and Pine are great herbs to burn for banishing and purification. You can also make a herbal spray as well.

Candles - Banish from your space using corresponding banishing candle colours like Black.

Herbs - Can be made into satchels, jars, sprays, spellwork and other items for banishing.

Sigils - Create a banishing sigil for your space, self or working.

Powders - Powders like GTFO powder are great examples for banishing's

Witches bells - Witches bells hang on your doorknob or on your door (inside the home) for protection and banishing. When someone comes into the home it rings, banishing negative energy.

Spells - Return to sender, uncrossings and freezer spells are good examples of banishings. Write the target's name on a black candle with intention, dress with corresponding oils, and write a petition to place under the candle to effectively banish them from your space/life.

Energy - Visualize a powerful bubble of protective light of any colour. Visualize it pushing out of your chest and visualize it burning up the energy and pushing it out of your space. Can be energy-taxing so please drink some water and eat a snack.

Black salt - Salt (I use sea) mixed with charcoal, eggshell powder and protective & purifying herbs. Used in warding, banishing and protection. Please be careful around pets with salt as they can get sick if eaten.

Physical

Baths/showers - Submerging yourself in water with banishing herbs and oils. You can also shower with banishing herbal soaps and hang a mesh satchel with purifying herbs over your shower head.

Physical - Literally taking pots and pans, screaming to get out of your house. Both annoying to the neighbors and effective for spirits.

Vocal - Prayer to deity/ancestors/guides/etc for assistance. Prayer from a holy book. Incantations are normally followed by another action like ringing bells.

Tarot Deep Dive - The Magician

Imagery

The Magician usually depicts a man with his arm raised up to the universe and the other down to the earth. He stands at an altar with each element and symbol of the suits present - a pentacle, sword, cup, and wand. An infinity symbol hovers above his head, while a snake bites its own tail around his waist.

Key Words

Upright: manifestation, determined, resourcefulness, power, inspired action

Reversed: confusion, manipulation, poor planning, ill intentions, untapped talents

General Interpretation

The infinity symbol and snake both symbolise unlimited potential, while the symbols on the altar show unlimited resources at the Magician’s disposal. With one hand pointing to the universe and the other to the earth, he serves as a conduit for spiritual and material energies and the ability to manifest his wishes and goals into the physical world.

Example Interpretation

In a single pull, the Magician may be interpreted as the querent having everything they need to begin a journey or project. They have the potential and resources to succeed at what they put their mind to. They only need to begin the process, tapping into their full potential rather than holding back or hesitating.

The Musical Contest between Apollon and Marsyas

Marsyas was a Phrygian satyr who found the divine aulos that Athena had discarded. Or in another version, Marsyas is known as the inventor of the aulos. He fell in love with the instrument and eventually mastered it, believing his skills were that of a God.

Marsyas challenged Apollon, who agreed (or in some versions, Apollon challenged Marsyas for his claims of being better than the God). Marsyas would play first using the double-piped aulos, followed by Apollon playing the same piece on a kithara (or lyre, as some debate these were the same instrument in their earlier days), and the two played back and forth captivating their audience.

Some sources say the judges were the Muses, in others it was King Midas of Phrygia. In one version, Marsyas won the first round. To this, Apollon turned his kithara upside down and played the piece. In another version, Apollon sang while playing the piece. And no matter which version you follow, Marsyas was unable to flip his aulos upside down or sing while playing the wind instrument, ending the contest with Apollon as the winner.

As punishment for his hubris and pride by challenging a deity, Apollon had Marsyas tied to a tree and flayed alive, who might have intended for his skin to be turned into a wine flask. The sight of Marsyas was so upsetting that locals, rustic deities, fauns, and his brother satyrs all wept for him, and in doing so they flooded a river that would be named after him.
