Can we draw attention to his son, though? The entire time Donald Trump was on screen, endorsing himself, contradicting his own earlier prejudices by speaking vaguely well of “all races and religions” and speaking of his intended unity and friendship with other countries, his young son (Barron) did not for a second stop looking absolutely devastated. Barron was displaying anxiety, fidgeting with his clothes, staring steadily at the floor instead of around him, and seeming to mentally step back (dissociate) from the situation (basically no facial expression, not even acknowledging when his father spoke of him). Something particular I noticed was that as Trump said things particularly not fitting to his brand (guarantees of well-wishes and good deeds in the face of all races, his benevolent approach to ruling the country, etc.) Barron did things like needlessly covering his mouth or eyes, the classic unconscious reactions of the human body to blatant lie telling. He observes what is said and done behind closed doors, and he sees the discrepancies between that and what Trump tries to portray. And though his father and the rest of the family may be older and more aware of their own body language, it seems that young Barron is the only one revealing the truth.

More on body language, during one moment Trump gesticulated widely with his arms and Barron flinched. He. Flinched. Maybe he was startled. But as an abuse survivor, I’ve seen and done that flinch before.

Another side note: apparently Donald had to have a talk with Melania before he went to make his acceptance speech and I’m convinced it’s because she was going to leave him and take Barron after the election and he had to convince her to stay

I’m not a fan of Melania Trump in any way but I do have sympathy for her and for her son Ever since that video came out she has looked so dead inside and so apathetic towards him and her body language has screamed barely contained anger and frustration When they were being interviewed by Anderson Cooper she referred to Barron as “my son” before quickly correcting herself and saying “our son” This is a woman who probably wants out of a terrible and toxic marriage but can’t leave because a) she has her son to think about and lbr Donald would make sure she never saw Barron again if she walked away rn and b) he went and got elected fucking president of the USA

I don’t like Melania and I’ll never forgive her for so many things but fuck if I don’t feel for her and Barron’s current circumstances
