So I was helping a student with a packet comparing 17th century Virginia and Massachusetts and this picture was a source for them to analyze. This is a Puritan meetinghouse/church from the 1680s thatās still in use today in Hingham, MA. We live in Massachusetts, too. This packet was clearly not written for MA students because the second question was, āDoes this look like a church?ā
And we were both like... yeah? A lot of town churches look like this out in the āburbs and countryside here? Like, I was raised Catholic and this still reads to me like a church, although plain.
But then he had to compare it to a 17th century Virginian church that looks way more Anglican and he was worried that he answered the first question wrong because he felt like the questions were trying to imply the first one didnāt look like a church.
