Samhain

"Samhain

Samhain, also known as the Witches New Year, is always held on October 31st. A time when the veil thins. Samhain is also a cross quarter day, marking the mid point of Autumn."

"Séance

Samhain is thought to be a time of little distance between the living and the passed. If there's anyone on the other side you would like to communicate with, now is an excellent time, according to the pagan tradition."

"Bonfire

Light a bonfire in an outdoor setting if feasible, or ignite flames within a fireplace or a small cauldron. Jot down an old habit you'd like to leave behind, then cast it into the Samhain flames as you envision letting it go."

"Turnips

Did you know jack-o'-lanterns were once carved from turnips in Samhain? Ancient Celtic cultures were known to carve turnips and place embers inside to ward off evil spirits."

Book Recommendation

Rebel Witch: Carve the Craft that's Yours Alone by Kelly-Ann Maddox

Part One

This part lays the foundation of witchcraft. It discusses the meaning of "witch" and what a witch does. She talks about what being a rebel witch is about and the challenges one may face.

Next the author gives some tips and prompts and how and when to "come out of the broom closet". She stresses the importance of questioning what we're told and how to make your practice your own.

Part Two

"Make it Happen" is the title of part two. It discusses the wheel of the year, moon phases, other personal celebrations, celebrations of people who have impacted your life (including saints and icons), mainstream holidays, and days of awareness. She also suggests ways to celebrate them.

Next she talks about non-physical beings, including fictional characters. She suggests ways to connect with these beings.

She goes into spiritual hygiene and creating a sacred space. The author provides basic spellcasting steps and gives ideas of other witchy activities. She touches a little on divination. When keeping records, she points out that it shouldn't be seen as an obligation and different means of keeping those records.

Part Three

This part is all about learning about yourself and how you see the world. She discusses a lot but the central theme is working on yourself.

I'm looking for someone to help keep me accountable in my witchcraft journey. I'm a 26 year old NB witchy, practicing consistently since 2020. I grew up Evangelical and always felt a calling towards the metaphysical. I started my journey with crystals and candles and slowly expanded my practice to what it is today. I enjoy houseplants, crystals, herbs, candles, color, divination, and much more. An ideal partner would be someone willing to check in with me more or less weekly and see what kind of craft we did throughout the week.
