My favorite thing about #da Pitt is that it’s a heart-wrenching drama centered on a broken healthcare system and the brave hospital workers doing their damndest to get people the help that they need and deserve AND it’s a gory medical show with high-stakes edge-of-your-seat action AND it’s a series of character studies about deeply flawed individuals who go about doing good in all the wrong ways AND it’s a commentary on the lack of care inherent within our capitalist society where we are reduced to our bodies’ capacity for labor AND it’s also about a mentally ill middle-aged man at the center of an increasingly convoluted emotionally constipated coworker polycule. The Pitt contains multitudes.

kids these days are like “i need chat gpt to write an essay that would normally take 12 hours in 2” but back in my day i did that all the time by using a little technique called “writing some absolute bullshit.” and yet i still walked away with a better essay and more critical thinking skills than i would get if i used chatgpt. return to tradition: write a bad essay that you started on the day it was due, but write it yourself.

Ripley (my parrot) says "you're silly" a lot because I say it to him a lot. But he also participates in both sides of this exchange: "you're silly" "no YOU'RE silly" "we're silly." Lately he has just been cutting to the chase and thoughtfully remarking "we're silly" over breakfast.

ranking the best things I have heard surgeons say mid-surgery:

1. "Five second rule!" while scrubbed, after dropping a sterile scalpel on the floor (no they did NOT pick it up again but I swear everyone's buttholes puckered)

2. (spoken during the closing of a particularly long and difficult case) "Nurse - my tunes." :heavy metal starts blasting:

3. Gently to a fretful patient, pre-anaesthesia: "It's going to be okay. I promise, I've dealt with worse." As soon as the patient is unconscious: "This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen."

4. [okay this one was a med student] "Wowwww, that's so gross!!" Reg: "Please remember that [patient] is awake for this procedure." Student to patient: "Oh my god. I am so sorry, that was really unprofessional - " Patient, cheerfully, also engrossed with what's happening inside them on the screen: "Nah - it's, like, super gross, right?"

5. [another procedure where the patient couldn't be put under GA] Patient: *starts singing country roads midway through the procedure* Surgeon: *shrugs and joins in with surprisingly good harmony*

since everyone is talking about the difference between katniss' and haymitch's narrations, i find it funny how in sotr everyone is vaguely described and in og trilogy we know how most of the characters look and i know it's coincidental but it's like this:

haymitch describing a character: she has two sisters two brothers, her parents married each other on one spring day, one of them is gay, she's a lesbian and broke up with her girlfriend over jealousy

katniss describing a character: idk man he has.... brown hair
