Sometimes I genuinely forget some destiel scenes are real and not fanfiction. Like wdym Dean went against Alastair who he panically feared because he almost killed Cas and it was when they barely knew each other yet in s4. The "we've been through so much together, you and I. I just wanted to say I'm sorry it ended this way" line. "Hey, Cas, not for nothing, but last person looked at me like that... I got laid". "Aw, ain't he a little angel" in the middle of the apocalypse. "I prayed to you, Cas, every night" for a YEAR. Dean changing his memories just not to have to deal with the fact that Cas could've left him voluntarily. "I need you" while on his knees and about to be killed. Gently petting Cas' knee and holding his face while Sam's also half dead in the background. Cain/Colette parallel. "You're pining for somebody" right after he talks to who he thinks is Cas, then overpowering connection with God's sister because he was worried for Cas more. The mixtape. "We've lost everything, and now you're gonna bring him back". Being generally suicidal every time Cas dies and once actively trying to kill himself, straight up saying he doesn't have faith if Cas is dead. Crying, praying on his knees in the middle of the monsterland and begging Cas to forgive him and to come back to him. In an illusion that Chuck shows Sam Dean giving up completely again "after I had to bury him in the ma'alak box". NOT PICKING UP THE CALL FROM SAM AFTER THE CONFESSION. WHILE GOD IS KILLING EVERYONE.

like misha collins in season 4 was making too much eye contact or not enough eye contact, wasn’t blinking and stood too close to the person he was shooting the scene with (which happened to be jensen ackles for most of the early episodes) because he was trying to portray an ancient cosmic entity the size of the chrysler building who is beyond human comprehension and possessing a human body for presumably the first time. it wasn’t meant to be gay necessarily, it was supposed to be a creature not quite grasping the subtleties of human interaction and it read as gay because that’s what happens when you stand so close you can track pupil dilation. jensen ackles, however, responded to this acting choice by nervously licking his lips and staring at his coworker’s mouth and swallowing a lot and there is no excuse for this because both he and dean winchester are human beings who know what a boner is. no excuse.

The simple shift from the past perfect tense to the future tense breaks my heart even more.

It's not only "You're the best man among all that I've seen and known for all my extremely long life", but also, "there is no more future for me. I will never know any man after you, let alone anyone as beautiful and loving as you, because this is it for me. I know I won't ever come back, and I won't meet any more human beings. You are the best and love of my life, and this is the ending for me."

The sense of farewell is so, so strong in the real version. That is what led to Dean's "Why does it sound like goodbye?" Because it is.
