Abyssal flames

Darkness. Silence. Emptiness. Still room-temperature air. And a grey brick path, paradoxically visible in the vast and absolute darkness surrounding it.

Somewhere on it, a person lying on it drew a ragged breath. Looked around, confused and scared. They saw nothing but a path stretching endlessly in both directions. They stood up, still confused, and started shouting, trying to call out anyone or anything. Yet, the Abyss kept its silence. They started walking. Time passed, the wayfarer wandered further and further, and at some point stopped trying to get a response from cold and indifferent nothingness. Thirst, hunger, sleep—none of that troubled the lonely wayfarer. Only the maddening emptiness, silence, and loneliness started to slowly corrode the mind.

A day passed. A year. A century. A millennium flew by. Epochs came and went, and still the wayfarer continued the path, slowly losing human form, literally turning into a shadow of themself. Or was it all merely the sick and twisted illusion of the mind that was falling apart?... No one could give an answer. Neither did the wayfarer, who has already lost their name and most of their life, whose mind barely exists to fulfill the only goal—move forward.

Yet, nothing lasts forever, and this longing torture ended as well. Something has changed. Wayfarer got used to the still scenery so much that a sudden glimpse of light made them freeze for days. Or was that only minutes? Yet, the shock passed, and the wayfarer started running for the first time here, and their mind, as if awakening from a lengthy dream, began to gradually piece together at least a bit from shards it became.

Gradually the small light grew into a bonfire, blazing in the middle of the Abyss aside from the road like a beacon of hope for an agonizing mind. Around it, four shadowy figures had sat, carrying on a dialogue. Wayfarer knew this, despite at that moment they were silent. The wayfarer, who turned into just a shadowy silhouette of themself, was stunned by the scene. One of the figures sitting around the fire, resembling a female silhouette, was the first one who reacted to the newcomer.

"Oh, gentlemen, we have a newbie!" - She waved welcomingly to the wayfarer—"I haven't seen a newcomer for such a long time, and now there are five of us!"

Another figure, which looked like a sphere with something similar to arms at side, muttered: "Yeah, haven't seen new faces for a while—at last something entertaining, and I won't be forced to listen to you at least for a bit…"

The other two figures, one in the shape of a mantis and the other a male silhouette with four arms, didn't utter a word, though the male one turned towards the wayfarer, as if studying them, then slowly nodded and scoffed bitterly for some reason. The mantis, at the same time, seemed like a monolithic statue.

"My name is Lili, this spherical bore is Khan, old man called himself old Robert, and our insectoid friend never introduced self, though we've been here for… A while I'd say. What about you, young shadow?" She asked with evident interest.

The young shadow, as the wayfarer was called, couldn't answer—the prolonging isolation had simply stolen the ability to speak, at least for now. Lili gave them an understanding hum and sat aside, pointing at the spot near her. The young shadow silently sat down and started gazing into the fire. It seemed to help gluing the mind back together. Its dance was mesmerizing, too alive for such a still and cold place. Flames blaze from seemingly nothing, always shifting and cracking quietly, yet never leaving the circle of bricks, which marked the borders of the bonfire. Silence fell over the group once more. However, the one who referred to herself as Lili hummed, "I am growing bored, and nobody is eager to talk. Well, I guess I'll introduce myself to the newbie properly and begin with my story…"

The one who was called Khan only groaned heavily.

It was the most beautiful night he remembered, and he remembered hundreds. The night sky was strewn with stars as if a careless painter had spilled his colors. The moon was shone like an overworld beacon on the distant shore, glowing from above. He took a deep breath and released a small cloud of steam. Despite the days being warm, nights showed that winter hasn't yet released the world from her cold embrace.

"Missed me?" She appeared on the hill without a sound. Her smile was stunnig, her eyes were shining with mischief. As always.

"Thinking. Dreaming. Remembering." He sighed, leaning against the trunk of an old oak before sitting on the silky night grass.

"You know, so much happened since that day… I could buy a house here, just to visit you..." said he. She stepped closer, blocking the moonlight. "And the views are also wonderful, the nights are so quiet, and the people are also quite pleasant too…"

When finished, he fixed his gaze on her grayish-blue eyes, which seemed to look at him with a playful sparkle, yet peering right into his soul. As always.

"What?" He asked, unable to bear the silence.

"You know it yourself, and yet you keep your torment…" With a sigh, she lowered herself on the grass next to him, resting her head on his shoulder and her eyes closed. He kept staring into the vast ocean of the cosmos, seemingly unmoved by her actions.

Time past. Ten minutes, an hour, or perhaps an eternity flew by them.

"You know it is the time, don't you?" She whispered sadly in his ear, brushing a strand of hair from his face. As always.

"I know. But I can't. Just can't. Could you… Stay a bit longer?…" His voice was filled with such a desperate plead that only a stone heart could ignore. She only sighed bitterly.

"The sun is rising, it is time to move on. You know there are people who are waiting for you, wanting you to get better. It's time, my sunshine. Time to go, to move on." Her smile glowed, though her eyes were full of tears. As always.

He tried to rise, to seize her hand, to hold her closer, to keep her from leaving.

The horrendous cry of alarm tore him from the dream. Once again he woke up in the half-abandoned apartment, lifeless and cold. As always. Outside, dawn was breaking. On the shelf stood a dusty photo with a black ribbon. One clumsy step. One fatal fall. Two broken lives.

He opened his eyes, full of tears.

Reading: Genius by Leopoldo Gout. It's for an English assignment, but I absolutely adore it! I'm sooo gonna get The Con.

Last series: Gravity Falls. It's been more than four days and I'm still on Dreamscapers. It's not because I'm procrastinating, it's because I still get giddy as $$#% over Bill Cipher's entrance and I wanna rewatch it. I wanna rewatch it.

Last movie: uhh, it's been a while, but I think that it was Joe's College Road Trip. Yes, I am well aware that the Madea movies are nothing but Black stereotypes, but they do have morals, are based on truth, and the comedy is exceptional ( Look up Madea lines out of context. You're gonna love it. )

Last song: Ready as I'll Ever Be from Tangled: The Series through that one Warrior Cats map. I cannot stop replaying the "Now the line's in the sand and our moment's at hand" line and first of all, don't believe the haters, you are never too old to indulge in your biweekly dose of Varian <3 And okay maybe you're too old for Warriors but BWAHSAGJA we're all kids here so who cares? :D

Sweet or salty: SWEET! There are some good salty foods like pretzels but there is just so much stuff that's sweet! :D

Reading: Bad Blood by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, the final book in the tetralogy.

Last Series: Stranger Things. I only watched it after the hype and mixed reviews for Season 5 came out and most people had finished talking about it. Personally I don't think the series was that bad but to each our own.

Last Movie: Avatar: The Way of Water. I watched Avatar: Fire and Ash... that movie emotionally wrecked me in the best way. I came home and rewatched the first two movies AHHH can't wait for the movie to be released in Disney+.

Hi! I’ve seen a few of your posts and just realised the police report one and the help desk one were both yours 😭 the switch in style caught me off guard in a good way. So I was just wondering — what kind of stuff do you usually like writing?

Woah, the fact I interested someone caught me off guard in a good way! :) Actually, I just liked role-playing with friends, but decided to try out something new. I don't have general style (at least yet), and tried writing this and that, mostly to unleash some creativity, improve my writing skill and, well, find something "mine". Sadly, now I don't have energy to write anything worth posting due to school... But I have a couple of nearly completed drafts (technically they are completed, just not translated), so I hope that the silence won't last forever. Stay tuned with good vibes!)

So, this is my first attempt to write something without a prompt. To be honest, it's just an old draft refined and translated. Yet, I hope it's not bad. Huge thanks to a friend of mine who really helped me with editing it!

At a planet not shown on any solar map.

This was a really strange place. Meadows floating in a light purple haze somewhere in the atmosphere should have raised a lot of questions, but this whole planet was too insane to be bothered. A column of pale blue light struck from the sky. Was there a sky in the first place?… From that column a figure in a light battle spacesuit has been formed. A pair of trustworthy pistols has already been in the intruder's hands. How many times has he been here?… Ten, twenty, hundred, or even more?… He had already lost count, and well, that didn't matter either way. Local and not different creatures climbed out of all cracks. It seemed like the intruder was doomed. He only sighed and pulled the trigger. A bug the size of a wolfhound blew up into numerous pieces. And then a huge explosion erupted. The remains of a just-killed creature violently exploded, and the remains of the ones killed with that explosion also bursted in flames. The rumble of bursts was heard until all creatures died out. The intruder remained untouched. Boring. He didn't pay any attention to the hell that surrounded him. Yet sometimes making several shots to kill another monster and the chain reaction started all over again. He sighed again and started moving. He was so fast that he could cross all meadows in several seconds. How many times has he been here? How many times would he get here again? He didn't know. The only thing he did know was the fact that even if he dies, he will get back to the beginning of this nightmare. It is time to relax, he hasn't gotten such power in a while. The intruder frowned. The Void took too much this time, yet it gave a lot of power. He tried to relax yet again, but a golem interrupted that attempt. Dash, several shots, explosion, and the golem turns into dust. Yet the Void didn't miss that chance. Voices grew stronger, their words became louder. They always try to say something, convey some ideas. This was almost enough to drive someone insane, yet the intruder has already gotten used to that. He was just tired. He even wiped out the whole planet several times, yet he was still locked up in the Loop. After all, what was the point in proceeding if everything goes back to normal every time? The intruder didn't know, however he wasn't used to think much about orders. The Void yet again showed itself. Strange, unnatural whispers pierced his consciousness. No, there was no way to get used to that feeling indeed. Maybe he should give up? Let the Void in, sink into its thoughts, fall so deep, that maybe this cursed Loop would not get him yet another time?… The flow of creatures ran dry. It didn't take him more than 15 minutes to annihilate every living being in a kilometer radius. Well, it is time to move on then…

P.S I'm open to edits, if they are necessary. Also I'm definitely open to constructive criticism and general feedback! Have a nice day! ^^
