I love to paint and draw, though I’m mostly stuck in realism till I find my own style.

I read a lot, mostly classics and things for school right now.

I dabble in poetry, my favourites are Walt Whitman, Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. And I write my own, actually pretty proud of it!

A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.

Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.

Isn't this just arriving to me, a Spanish, at the right time? We have been having a crisis in Ceuta, one of the two towns Spain has in Africa, because a couple of weeks ago, Moroccan soldiers left the border and apparently Spanish ones too (or they couldn't keep up).

50,000 people came through (into a town with about 90,000 people) in about 24 hours hearing that the border was open, many of them were children without their parents. Most went back willingly during the next couple of days but many still are in Ceuta hiding or trying to stay/make a move up North. Tensions are rising.

And while Spain is trying to maintain diplomatic relationships with Marocco and seeing what we can do (mostly, send people back in various degrees of "reasonable and peaceful" ways), while we have our own far right pointing at it because look at the moors invading us, Finland and fucking Italy are saying things like "we should keep Spain out of the Schengen agreement". We are hearing some really disgraceful and racist shit from other European countries.

Not only are people dying by the hundreds just because of this adventure, this is currently distracting us from other people seeking asylum. We speak about Ceuta, we forget about the Canary islands. And children... Well, maybe the youngest ones are a bit luckier (I doubt it) but once they are 18, they are automatically out of the foster system, often with no documents for legal stay or for legally working.

Also, we do have our own detention centers on Spain and I have heard judges describe them as "worse than prisons".

And what I perceive from Spain is that regardless of what Spain's idea is for handling the thousands of Africans who come in hopes of going further North, we must do what Europe wants. And Europe wants to stay white.

I don't hope that Spain would be much more reasonable, I know there are plenty of racists here too. But my blood boils when people from Northern Europe don't know about this or worse, knows but says all surprised "Spain doesn't take in many asylum seekers" or some other bullshit that takes all of the blame from their government toward ours as if there wasn't pressure from everywhere else to control the border.

We have more shared history with Morocco than with Germany. They are just on the other side of the sea and the wrong religion. It is so sad and unfair.

My sibling is back after three weeks and is once again being mean to me for no apparent reason. Always saying I’m arguing with them when I’m not, that I’m short with them, or that I’m offended… just laying feelings on me that I do not feel and needlessly ending a conversation.

I just feel that they has less patience for me than for anyone else, that I can just call their name and they’re already annoyed.

If they don’t want to talk to me I’d prefer they’d say so. And I could blame it on the sleep deficit they are experiencing, but they don’t have any problem being perfectly pleasant (by their standard) to other people so… ugh ugh ugh

And I promised to myself I would try to swear less, but they are making it very fucking difficult.
