4) had the chance to specifically filter out any tags you donât want to see like, oh I donât know, incest and non-con and dub-con and paedophilia
5) had the chance to set the rating level if you wish to remove any explicit content at all
6) have read the summary of the story, which arenât always great but are the only indicator of what the story will be like writing wise so something about it was good enough for you to click on it.
7) have read the tags of the story which will tell you what is actually in the story. If you have used filters to remove stories with things you donât want then there shouldnât be anything in here thatâs a shock to you but maybe there is. Thatâs why the tags are there for you to check for yourself.
8) Then you have to actually click on the story. You cannot see anything other than the summary or the tags without personally deciding that you are going to open and read this story.
9) Only here, at step number nine, do you get to the adult content warning pictured above. You have been through eight different steps, the last six of which have also been opportunities for you to see that this has adult content. And AO3 has *STILL* stopped you to ask one last time âare you sure you want to read this because it has things that only adults should see in itâ.
If after this point you are reading incest and paedophilia then itâs probably because you specifically went looking for it.

Stop complaining with writers when you dislike a story FGS
This also works when stories are tagged, oh say, infidelity. If you donât want to read about someone in your OTP being unfaithful (I.E., HAVING SEX WITH A DIFFERENT PERSON), donât read that freaking story. The tags are there for YOU. So stop complaining when the story contains exactly what the author says it contains. Freaking hell.

I have never accidentally read an incest fic on Ao3. Itâs clear to me that these angry moralizers are actively looking for the content they rail against and taking their post-nut guilt out on others.
And one more thing, even after all of the above, if you start reading a fic, YOU CAN ALWAYS STOP READING IT!! If youâre reading and decide itâs not for you, hit the damn back button.

Iâve done this. Iâm an over 50 broad and if Iâm reading something and it takes a turn I find icky, I stop reading and go find something else. Honestly, donât be so damn stupid.
It occurs to me that most neurotypicals donât seem to actually know what a special interest is.
âregular interest, but Moreâ doesnât fully express it for me. I like to refer to special interests as âsubstrateâ because theyâre often a foundation for interacting with and processing the world and for making the inner environment of my brain comfy and consistent. Having a special interest usually means thatâs what you âdefaultâ to when youâre not thinking about anything in particular. Special interests are a way to seek comfort when things are overwhelming. Theyâre a way to impose structure on your life and your thoughts; theyâre reliable and building up a body of facts about the thing you like is comforting. Theyâre also a way of connecting with others and making conversation; facts about your special interest are easier than âfreestylingâ your way through a conversation, essentially making it up as you go. Special interests also bring autistic people joy and happiness...itâs essentially emotional regulation.
Special interests serve a function. They arenât just like...a quirk of being autistic, theyâre a way of dealing with the world and your own brain as an autistic person.
For me, I can broadly divide my life into âerasâ based on the special interest I had at the time. It was a lot of my identity. For an autistic person your current special interest is often a really, really fundamental part of you at the time.
This means that, at least from my point of view, itâs weird and contradictory to say âspecial interests are valid! support autistic people!â and then talk about how adults shouldnât need fictional things to process real world problems and how cringy it is for adults to make some fandom theyre in into a âpersonality traitâ like...yeah, people shouldnât talk about fandoms on posts about real world tragedies, but I canât escape the fact that what youâre specifically calling weird and immature is kind of what a special interest is. You canât separate special interests from âprocessing the world through your interestsâ and âmaking your interests a fundamental part of your identity.â Those things are often part of what makes a special interest a special interest.
Iâve told my siblings that the reason I quote TV shows at them all the time is that itâs how I interact with the world. This post is a good way of explaining it.

One of my favorite stories from the flower shop was a woman who was surprising her friend with flowers on her âfirst birthday party.â This was a party to celebrate her first birthday out and proud as a trans woman. The theme was to buy her things that she would have never gotten as a child- barbies, flowers, plastic jewelry tiaras, the like.
I am in love with that concept! I think itâs so dang sweet, and it sounds like she has amazing friends.
So yes I absolutely think that we should combine gender reveal parties, âcoming outâ parties, and first birthdays to trans people.
Sunday, November 14th:Â Hi everyone, Iâm Gemma, a bi, mentally ill disaster, whoâs in desperate need of help, as I'm really struggling with my bills and due to charge-backs, my accounts are overdrawn and my electricity meter is back on its emergency credit!!
As most of you are already aware from my previous post, I have been struggling financially for quite some time due to my welfare benefit (Universal Credit) being under a review, which is due to my worsening mental health and the UKâs controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. And at the moment, I'm currently struggling to get by, as my application for Disability (PIP) was declined and due to Covid, I have been waiting almost a year for an appointment for a WCA (Work Capability Asessment) from the DWP to assess my mental and physical health, and due to this, my debt from overdue bills is piling up to an amount that I'm really struggling with.
I know this is a huge ask, and I'm completely heartbroken to be asking for help again, but I still desperately need some as I don't have anyone else to turn to and if I can't pay this balance off by the 25th my welfare benefit will get eaten by it and I need to top-up my electricity or it will be cut off.
