The Pax Silica initaitive is a joint plan involving the participants such as the UK, US, Israel, the EU to secure rare earth minerals for the silicon supply chain. This plan will involve opening up huge swaths of the island of Luzon to mining and special economic zones, displacing farming communities and threatening the food and water security of thousands.
Primer on the initiative from Philippine social movements:
To be clear, this is NOT a data center, this is rare earth metal extraction and manufacturing, particularly silicon. I'd actually argue that's worse because a single data center can cause a lot of harm but it can be shut down. Meanwhile, rare earth extraction could cause lasting damage including pollution of water, air and land, and habitat destruction.
The original signatories were Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UK and of course the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Silica
Currently the Wikipedia has a controversies page, though if that gets taken out it should still be in the edit history.

all my life I’ve felt like this guy
on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.
i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability
i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain
idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though
it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media
if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!
one time i saw someone make anthro warrior cats designs and they gave cinderpelt a cane & put it on the same side as her injured leg. and in the drawing she was holding her injured leg up & was just balancing on her working leg and the cane. if you’re going to draw disabled characters/make disabled OCs, please please learn about how disability aids actually work. if a character has lost the use of an entire leg, a cane is not going to help with that. they will need crutches at the very least if they’re putting more than like. 20% of their body weight on the mobility aid.
(if you’re unfamiliar with warrior cats, cinderpelt is a feral cat living in a group of other feral cats, who was hit by a car when she was an older kitten. her leg was broken in the accident, and because she didn’t have access to a vet, it healed slightly twisted. she can’t put much weight on it)
heck it's hard on your body using a cane when you're still at the point in recovery when you should probably still be using crutches, canes are mostly useful for balance as I understand it (actively looking for a cane that is not folding, doesn't click, and is ideally made of wood to help with balance issues without exacerbating sensory issues)
canes can help with pain and fatigue, but it shouldn’t be the only option people consider when it comes to those things
Lately everything that happens feels like it was engineered in a lab to drive us all insane
i talk about transitioning and all anyone ever says is "I hope you don't regret it" what if instead we said I hope you love it. I hope it's everything you ever wanted. I hope you live the rest of your life in utter bliss. etc etc.
I hope you transition and I hope it's the best thing you ever did and I hope you never look back and I hope you finally feel comfortable in your own skin
