Not me loving a movie even more after realizing it could be considered a Frankenstein adaptation.
Tron: Ares is literally a digital-age retelling of Frankenstein. A creation brought to life by a creator. Put through the trials and tests of humanity and learns to live as his true self.
Ares obviously takes on the role of The Creature.
Julian Dillanger takes on the role of Victor Frankenstein. So too could Eve but in a lesser sense.
Flynn takes on the role of the blind man as well as a personification of life/nature like in the book.
Eve, like I said, could be seen as a "good" Victor. But I'd argue that she more so represents Robert Walton. The captain who is also in over his head on an ambitious journey to discover the unknown. While both characters from the book take on blind ambitios acts, so too do the characters in the movie. Both go on extreme routes to get the permanence code before the other to bring the digital world into the real world. While Dillanger takes on the more dangerous route and ultimately ends up getting his mother killed with his reckless behavior, Victor also did the same thing of abandonning the creature letting it go free on a murderous rampage on everyone Victor holds dear.
Flynn takes on the persona of both the nature of humanity and the blind man. He learns just how much Ares has "malfunctioned" and in a sense deems him worthy of being human. The blind man in the book indirectly taught the creature how to read, write, and be human. Through Eve and her leadership at Encom as well as her personal morals, she too teaches Ares not everything needs a "directive" or a purpose. Things can just be and that is okay.
Ares ultimately ends up being what the Creature wanted to be. Human. Eve is the good that can happen when you set your mind to something ambitious. Julian is still what happens when blind ambitions pulls the wool over your eyes.
Ultimately, Tron: Ares is a cautionary tale of what is both good and bad about wild ambition. The same cautionary tale that Mary Shelly set out to write with "Frankenstein".
Again, some things are a stretch but if you look close enough, the connections are there. Eve is Walton, Ares in The Creature, Julian is Victor, and Flynn is the natural way of things.
(My understanding of Frankenstein obviously may differ from other's understandings of Frankenstein. But ultimately, you see something how you see something. Please be kind and know that I see things differently than others.)
