I feel like we can move beyond the argument and refrain that trans people should be left alone because we aren't bothering anyone. our opponents have correctly identified that trans liberation is the harbinger of true and genuine gender equality. this is a threat to them.

I am well aware that there is a inclination for white characters in fandom and in media in general but I think it is kinda of fucked up how common it is to make sweeping generalizations about the (HEAVILY implied) ethics of people based on the characters they like. Which is probably why most people in the replies and reblogs are just shit flinging; who wants to be told they are evil because their preference for a character? lol

You don’t think the fanbase of a movie that has a predominantly Black cast written and directed by a Black man should be annoyed by the fact that the white antagonist is receiving the most attention out of all the characters? In a movie that centers and celebrates us as a people, picking the white guy seems like a matter of simple preference?

Imagine thinking the reoccurring fixation and preference for white male characters (especially in stories that don't center them) is some kind of neutral and natural stance not worthy of some manner of commentary. Commentary on where that likely stems from or what it means.

It's especially funny as a Black person who used to be that way. I was a teenager who looked at media solely in terms of shipping. My attention in media focused solely on a certain kind character.

Now the difference is, I likely grew up consuming more Black media than other people who do this. Most of you watch the rare one that breaks through to mainstream and that's it.

But to see people not only deny it happens but to try to claim this is some sort of innocuous thing? Ha!

And another thing? OP said "you have biases and it shows. a white man in fiction could be the most evil. with little screentime. and he will still be the focus/highlight to someone. even more so than the actual leads. particularly if the leads are not white."

No morality was assigned. It's just an observation. A keen one.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a tag here on Tumblr. Especially of a Black film or tv series and gone "there's a random white actor here, but there's next to no content of the actual leads."

Which is why I started doing what I've been doing for eight years. Posting and highlighting Black media. Unlearning my biases along the way.

But I'll tell you this: if you're more mad at people like OP for recognizing a pattern more than the pattern itself? Maybe you are evil.

Because you saw the call to action and promptly victimized yourself. You don't want to change. And that's fine. But why make that his problem?

URGENT HELP NEEDED

our air conditioner is out during the florida heatwave

Hi so I am genuinely about to lose my mind. Our air conditioner just broke after the heat wave reached 113 degrees today and the temperature in our house is actively rising while the sun isn’t even out right now. our best guess is that some part of the outdoor portion of the unit went out. we are under an extreme heat warning for the next week at least

my partner and i are both chronically ill and on medication that significantly increases our heat sensitivity. we have three cats and no insulation in part of the house, once the sun comes up tomorrow it will be hot as fuck. i work from home for 50% of the week, and our car already doesnt have AC so now we are facing having absolutely nowhere of our own to get respite from the heat.

our home has an appliance warranty but they can only get a technician out here within 48 hours, and it’ll cost $100 minimum. the work is not guaranteed to be finished at that time; the only guarantee is the initial diagnostic visit. If the work needed is extensive, it might cost more. In the meantime we urgently need to get at least one window AC unit which during the summer is going to cost multiple hundreds of dollars.

we hate asking this when we know so many are struggling too, but time is of the essence for this and it can quickly become dangerous. we just don’t have the means to fix it ourselves right now, especially between paychecks and especially while also paying the elevated power bill that’s resulted from the heatwave already. we already struggle to afford bills and groceries each month, we wouldn’t ask if it weren’t a desperate situation. our savings is unspeakably meager and our debt is embarrassingly high
