using linux (as a content creator)
i will preface this by saying that im not an it guy, i dont code or anything but i do love linux. after i found a distribution that i liked i found that finding open source alternatives and trouble shooting stuff etc became pretty satisfying. linux is like a puzzle that you can make into whatever you want if you have the right pieces. but i will apologize in advance to it peeps if i dont use the right technical term for something.
Zay trade with @psalidodont!!!! Love the fish with cool fin hair,,,,
One of these days I'm going to cultivate the exact strain of mold that makes you good at shitposting
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
It’s very clear that you all have strong feelings about Tumblr and about this change. We hear you. The passion people have for how Tumblr works is one of the things that makes this place special.
As this rolls out over the next few days and you explore it, we’ll keep reading your replies and reblogs, so please keep sharing your questions, concerns, and ideas.
Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether you’re the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs, and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.
If you’d like to talk directly beyond the comments, leave a reply and we’ll follow up with as many of you as we can. We want to work with you to make Tumblr better.
right, so let me get this straight
You have a hellsite, whose one stand out feature, the one USP that keeps people on here, is that posts are collaborative. That people can come together on a post to dunk on each other, make art of their ideas, give writing prompts, whatever.
You have this shared posting. The thing that no other social media site really does. The thing that builds community the way it does.
And you... kill it? For... what? So that people can see how their addition did? On a site where numbers don't matter? Something that could easily be a separate number?
You turn collaboration from a fun time to a curse that takes away all notifications. All knowledge of what happens to your post.
For... what?
So that the OP isn't rewarded for starting a fun post?
I do not understand what the point of this is. Frankly, if I were an investor, I'd be out for blood.
What business goon signed off on destroying the, and I cannot stress this enough, one. single. thing. that kept the whole site afloat?
Which team lead didn't tell that person what a terrible idea this is?
Which coder actually made the change?
Because. Frankly. Everyone that had a hand in this should be fired for incompetence and the changes reversed. It's the only smart business decision here.

It’s like every week something weird happens.
I can’t even begin to imagine how many episodes would be improved just by Picard giving a stumbling, awkward exposition of the episode’s plot to the crew
ALL episodes could be improved if we saw Picard’s awkward, stumbling exposition to the crew of what’s going on that episode. In fact, I really wanna see that.
“Attention crew, this is your captain speaking. You may notice my voice sounds different, and uh, long story short, I’m 12 again. Another transporter thing, we should really get that looked at. Anywhooo if a little blonde kid starts ordering you around, don’t ignore him, because it’s me. Ok. Bye.”
Petition for future series of Star Trek to replace the ‘Captain’s Log’ bits with the Captain making increasingly bizarre anouncements over the intercom explaining the events of the plot to the redshirts.
“Attention crew, this is your captain speaking. Just letting everyone know that, earlier today, an extra-terrestrial probe inserted about half a centuries’ worth of memories into my brain, leading me to briefly believe that I was living a whole other life that felt as real to me as the one I’m living now. Then I woke up after what felt like decades— but was actually only a few minutes— to discover that my friends, my family and my culture not only no longer existed, but had never actually belonged to me in any real sense.
“So… er, y'know, if I seem a little off over the next few days… that’s why.”
“Attention crew; as you’ve probably noticed, the ship is being slowly transformed into an ancient, vaguely meso-American-ish alien temple; we’re working on ways to reverse it, but until then, just uh…sit tight and try not to ne converted into alien plant-life, haha–”
“Warn them about Data!”
“Oh yes, and if you see Lieutenant Commander Data roaming the halls in a kind of a mask…run.”
If this is your thing, I can only HEAVILY recommend The Star Trek: Lower Decks series
“Hello, everyone, uh…yeah. Hi; this is obviously not Captain Picard. Yeah…may name is Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Keegan and I’m actually in command of the Bridge right now. Now, I know what you’re thinking: who is this sexy devil, and where did the entire senior staff go? Haha; well. I wish I could tell you. All we know is that Q was seen a few hours ago, and apparently some ‘Robin Hood’ gear was seen to appear on the senior staff seconds before they disappeared, so we figure that they’re off having a, uh, little mediaeval adventure, haha. Hopefully nothing too dangerous. Aaaanywho, Starfleet Command *has* been notified, and they’ve ordered us to maintain orbit for the time being. So you know; just…go about your regular duties. Keegan out.”

@hellsite-hall-of-fame
how does this have under 10,000 notes in spite of my having seen it regularly for the entire time I’ve been on here?
I don't usually believe in jinxing and tempt fate recreationally, right?
But the moment I text my friend about how I'm the only one in this bus it stops to let in two entire kindergarten groups and an old lady that sits down directly next to me for no reason and I have to admit. Really felt the gods laughing at me there.
