Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.

“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.

“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.

“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”

“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”

“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.

What events occurred in Madame Adelaide’s life that she ended up unmarried in a huge mansion with cats that she treats like family. She mentions Carmen was her “favorite role” as well too, so that implies she was not only an opera singer back in the day, but an extremely successful one too.

And then there’s her relationship with George! I genuinely believe these two are just the closest, most platonic friends imaginable who have known each other forever. He was there back when she was still in Carmen, so we could also get some backstory on him and their relationship as well.

Just. Disney please hear me out. Give Madame Adelaide Bonfamille the backstory she’s always deserved.

Madam Bonfamille is perhaps one of two of Disney's animated sex workers. Because the historical truth of the matter is that she was someone's mistress. That's how opera stars made most of their money back then (and earlier than then), and Disney would never do justice to a story involving sex work or even TOUCH that subject with a ten foot pole. And I don't want them to! Backstories being something canon does is a new and weird thing. Backstories are for fanficcers to do!

Stop with this "well I want canon to do this" Go do it yourself, you'll get a better result than the sanitized crap canon is ALWAYS going to give you, especially with Disney!

I mean, they’re talking about making a movie. Disney has been making a bunch of live action “remakes” to their original films, which… I haven’t watched most of them because I don’t really care. There’s so many movies that exist for me to watch instead.

As much as I respect fan art and fan fic, I’ll be the first to note that it’s not the same as the artistry that goes into producing an actual film. Films are difficult to make.

And there’s a hundred conversations I could have about peoples relationships to media, the concept of adaptation and how it fits into Disneys remakes, my own opinions on all that, but I just got done with finals at school and I’m not in the mood for writing essays today.

This is a pitch. It’s a very vague pitch, but it’s an idea pitch.

When you’re writing stories, sometimes one of the steps can be telling other people about the ideas you had to gauge reaction. Sometimes you have an interesting concept, but no interest in actually developing the idea into more than an idea.

Why didn’t OP just write a fanfic? Ideas a cheap, and writing them into an actual story takes work. I can make new ideas every day. I can fantasize about what the characters do, but actually writing it into something that’s readable takes a fair amount of work.

It’s fine to want to share ideas and unfinished projects. This is a spark of inspiration. Someone could potentially develop it further- such things have happened before.

demanding fully written pieces just because someone had a decent idea isn’t going to work. It’s not even useful for a writer to go off of. I get comments on my work sometimes saying they want more content to a one-shot. “More of this” isn’t something I can work off of. It’s cool, I get the sentiment behind it, and I appreciate all of the comments I get… but it sometimes feels like people simply expect for finished projects to manifest instantly. Not how it works.

So to be 100% clear:

tumblr just added an update that requires you to verify your age in order to view "mature content". I'm not sure how they do the verification (haven't yet checked), but given recent similar updates from things like Discord, it most likely involves sending them a photo of either your face or your ID.

In addition, over the past few months, and also years in the long-term, tumblr has been incorrectly marking things as mature content. These include:

Notifications about missing persons and requests for help

Posts about youth liberation

Posts about sex education

Posts about how the mature content is poorly implemented

Posts about being trans, more specifically about trans women and transmisogyny by both tumblr and users on tumblr

Non-sexual selfies by trans women/transfems

Trans womens'/transefems' ENTIRE BLOGS even if the blog contains no sexual content

Reblogs made by various blogs, mostly trans women, which add no additional content but somehow are marked as containing mature content, when the original post is not

Posts talking about racism and antiblackness both on and off tumblr

Posts by black people, especially black trans people, that are non-sexual

And likely many more I haven't seen

In essence, this update has mandated that a majority of users (within the UK and Brazil) must either a) submit their personal information to tumblr, a website whose moderation has been EXTREMELY biased against marginalised people and who I would not trust with my ID, or b) be excluded from absolutely all conversations tumblr decides are "mature content", whether they are actually sexual in nature or not. Furthermore, anyone not over 18 will also not be allowed to take part in these conversations, or even see them, or interact with many trans women or people of colour on this site, as tumblr decides.

This update is complete bullshit designed to censor and exclude marginalised people, poorly hidden under a guise of "protecting teenagers from sexual content", and they know it.

EDIT: This update apparently only affects users in the UK or Brazil, like me. This is still bullshit even if it's just some people.

for those like me who cannot install alternative android forks on their phone because the phone in question is thoroughly unrootable, I would recommend downloading anyapk on your phone while you still can. In their own words:

anyapk is a lightweight Android application installer that bypasses Google's developer verification requirements by using local ADB (Android Debug Bridge) connections. Smoothly install any APK file on your device without restrictions, gatekeepers, or corporate approval.

If you're reading this after Google's lockdown date and are unable to install anyapk the regular way, there is a method outlined on the github linked above which tells you how to install anyapk on your phone by plugging it into a computer with ADB installed on it. Once you have anyapk on your phone, you will not have to do that ever again (unless you delete anyapk off your phone)

the files are all directly downloaded from this site, so there's no third party to worry about. i didn't make this site - it was created by PotentialAd943 on reddit, who claims they scanned their files clean before hosting. just to be sure, i scanned my pc after downloading too. it all came up clean! but it's good to be aware of pc safety, especially when pirating. it can't hurt to do a scan of your own to be sure!

how much pc knowledge do i need for this?

you should know how to download files, how to make and manage folders in file explorer, and how to navigate a program's settings menu.

any settings i should change in ryujinx?

here's some i recommend checking before starting the game:

for tomodachi life specifically, make sure you set a timezone in settings! you can have it match your pc's time for simplicity.

there are ostensibly keyboard controls, but they're a little wonky to figure out. if you can, plugging in any controller should work just fine. just make sure to select it in ryujinx's input settings! (you should also still be able to use your mouse for things like drawing facepaint!)

graphics settings will be on a per-pc basis, depending on your pc's strength. it's worth it to experiment with them and see what gives you the best performance. ryujinx will explain what each setting does if you hover over it!

the game crashed?

that's very likely to happen! on first time loading a scene, the emulator can sometimes struggle. it happened to me the first time i opened the mii editor, and the first time i opened the news station. you should be able to relaunch and everything will be fine. if it's happening super frequently, though, you may need to adjust your graphics or cpu settings!
