None of you know how powerful this image was in the year 2000.
OK, but this one was on my wall for a looong time, y'all....
The full set!!!
then everything changed when the fire nation attacked.
I don’t know how to embed a video on here, but this quote so poetically explained a concept I couldn’t put into words.
Maybe unpopular opinion, but I actually do like the way the whole “oh yeah, sometimes Jedi fuck” stuff is presented in recent books, because of course, the emphasis on it being a personal, individual choice, but also the implication that many Jedi do not fuck. Not because sex is forbidden or shame-based in the culture, but because within the Order, people more often choose not to, to the point that the footnote mention of “oh, but some do” needs to exist in current canon.
It’s a society of communal living. Everyone pitches in on everything from childrearing to food growing to medicine, regardless of interpersonal relationships. Titles like father or wife that tie reproductive/family cycles to lifetime connections or property don’t exist. I love the idea of many Jedi choosing celibacy happily, and the Temple being a great place to live a lifestyle where your connection to others are expressly not dictated by a romantic or sexual relationship. And the inherent, platonic intimacy of a psychically-connected community. I really love thinking about it.

banging my head on the wall BEGGING people on the internet to learn what an Inside Thought is. like you do not need to express every nasty opinion you have, and if you do so publicly, you gotta accept that people are gonna get mad at you for saying shit like "i find gay men repulsive". social media is not your private diary, it is public. there are consequences for saying terrible things, such as thousands of people thinking you're an asshole.
PLEASE learn what an inside thought is. you do not need to share everything that goes through your head. you shouldn't.
once you say something out loud people can hear it and respond. if what you say out loud insults them, they will also get mad at you. the nice thing about inside thoughts is when you don't say insulting things out loud to people, they don't get mad at you.
you have every right to say mean stupid bullshit that pisses people off, but if you don't want to deal with the consequences of that, consider learning some fuckin restraint.
Nobody's ever asked for specific citations on this when I bring up the Separatists' actions (and I'd be happy to provide episode titles if they had), but someday I feel like I really should rewatch the entirety of TCW just to make a list of the specific examples I mean when I say they were carpet bombing civilian populations, when they were using biochemical weapons on civilians, when they were blowing up medical stations, etc. Sometimes a post just doesn't flow very well with a ton of citations laid into it, but I feel like I should have a handy reference list just to show I'm not pulling things out of my ass, either. (I try to be clear when I mean something literally, when I mean something figuratively, when I mean something tongue in cheek, when I mean something as a silly shitpost, but I imagine it's not always as clear as I intend. Plus, god knows I've been eyeing another full rewatch anyway....)
A watch party would be fun. :)
For reference, here's the (non-comprehensive, I'm sure) examples of Separatist war crimes I had handy:
Attempt to assassinate political leader (Amidala) before hostilities broke out (AotC)
Extrajudicial execution of prisoners of war in custody/injured on the battlefield
Actively sending forces to hunt down survivors adrift in escape pods and murder them (S1E2)
Cut describes how shortly after Geonosis his transport was shot down, “...most of us were either dead or severely wounded. So when they [Separatist droids] started working their way through the wounded, killing us off, I knew there was no hope. I ran.” (S2E10 The Deserter)
Handcuffed clone trooper prisoner murdered in cold blood to try to get others to talk (Citadel Arc)
Deliberate testing of indiscriminate incendiary ‘defoliator’ weapon against non-combatants/peaceful colony of Lurmens on Maridun (S1E14, Defenders of Peace)
Biological warfare, Blue Shadow Virus (new airborne variant engineered and placed in bombs for deployment; virus was 96% fatal to ‘organic’ life and killed w/in 48 hours) (S1E17)
Deliberate & explicitly ordered use of captured Ryloth civilians as human shields (Tambor order issued to Tactical droid) (S1E20)
Dooku ordering Hyena-class bombers to carpet bomb civilian populations of Lessu (capital city of Ryloth) as scorched earth tactic to ‘teach a lesson’ to the galaxy about the cost of a Republic victory; prevented at last moment by Republic forces (Liberty on Ryloth)
Looting/stealing cultural artifacts and treasures from occupied populace (Liberty on Ryloth)
Genocide against Nightsisters; Grievous and droid army (S4E19)
Separatist droids deployed to kidnap civilians from Togruta colony on Kyros (and others) to sell into slavery/explicit material and military support for re-ascension of Zygerrian Slave Empire (S4E11-13)
Deliberate targeting of hospital facility - noted as caring for over 60,000 wounded clones (S1E3, Shadow of Malevolence)
Torture prisoners of war
Master Eeth Koth - General Grievous and Magnaguards (Grievous Intrigue)
Master Piell and command team to get hyperlane info (pre-Citadel eps)
Master Ropal captured, tortured, and killed in custody by Separatist droids in attempt to force him to open the holocron containing info about Force sensitive children (S2E2 Cargo of Doom)
These weren't systematically collected from a focused full watch, so I'm sure there are more out there that could be added.
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.
Please, PLEASE use Libby. OverDrive. Hoopla. CloudLibrary. Kanopy. Flipster. Freegal. Transparent Language. Mango. Jstor. Your library would not offer it if they could not afford it, and we afford things by reporting the number of people who use that service, so if you don't use the service we can't afford it. It's a cycle. Keep it going, keep using it, and we'll keep providing because we'll be able to justify the cost to the bean counters in government.
I'm just going to leave this here, because this woman said what I've been trying to articulate for ages much more effectively and succinctly than I've been able to
usamericans-
this is probably going around here like several times, but you can order 4 more free covid tests starting today. if you didn't order any back in september/october (I hadn't heard about it, so I hadn't gotten more tests), you might be able to get up to 8. it just told me 'hey you can get more' and let me do it again, it was very easy to do.
if you're like 'well, I should leave that for people who need it!' don't. order them. stockpile them. the more the program is used, the more likely it is that it will remain a funded program and send the message that covid-19 is still a concern. use the program. there's no needs testing, no nothing, just put in your name and address. if nothing else, you can give a couple to a friend who has a larger family, since it's a per household thing and some people might need more or less, or a mutual aid group in your area, or something. the more people who do this, the more likely they are to keep reupping this program.
Every U.S. household is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests.
post from november 20th 2023!
I did not order any when they first became available, and when I finished ordering from the above link (today, Nov. 22, 2023), there was a banner on the confirmation page telling me that my household was eligible for a second order.
It then let me click through a link and order a second set of 4 tests.
Did you know that AO3 allows fics with homicide in them? There’s a whole tag for Major Character Death and even more tags so you can find exactly what kind of character death you want to read.
Don’t they know that murder is illegal? You just know there are a bunch of homicidal maniacs out there who love to read those stories. They write them, too, in between killing people.
Anyone can read the stories on AO3! Kids can read them! They’re getting exposed to stabbing, poisoning, even guns! And they’re writing the heroes doing the killing, too! That’s basically telling kids it’s okay to go out and murder their families. It’s promoting violence and encouraging homicide and if we don’t do something about it soon, you’ll be murdered next!
The devil came to my house and tried to burn it down, which is why this post exists in the first place.
I saw Goody OP writing darkfic with the devil.
"The point is not that you are born evil - the thing that makes the film work ultimately is the fact that he is a good kid, trying to be a good kid, and he grows up to be a good kid. It's simply that his emotions take him places he can't control. He becomes evil out of his own ambition and greed, and revenge and hatred - all those things that kids face. Kids can see how their fears can cause them to do things that will turn them evil, even if they don't want to be evil. So hopefully, that will have some kind of an impact when it's all finished."

CANON CONFIRMATION: JEDI YOUNGLINGS ARE HELLIONS WHO TRY STUFF LIKE “WILL THIS LIGHTSABER TOAST THIS BLOCK OF CHEESE?”
You guys are absolutely bringing the right energy to this post:
I’m 100% assuming there was melted/charred cheese ALL OVER the hallway outside the younglings’ refectory, that’s how Bolla rolled. And that none of them bothered to clean it up, they just saw the explosion of cheese melting into the carpet and hardening there like plastic and just BOLTED from the hallway.
Some more absolutely knockout tags:
And the one that had me in tears because it’s pretty much confirmed canon:
vs The Fallen Star:
vs Into the Dark:
vs Padawan where we have seen:
Obi-Wan Kenobi as a youngling put glitterpaste in Bolla Ropal’s body wash because he thought it was funny (and it was)
Yaddle referred to Obi-Wan, Prie, Siri, Bolla, etc., all as “a merry brand of brats” by muttering it under her breath during “a particularly raucous lesson”
Obi-Wan Kenobi being like “yah but having a live bomb in your hand is good for negotiations” and isn’t even phased by his life being this weird
Bolla Ropal putting a LIVE BABY DEMON SQUID in Obi-Wan’s soup
Prie’s immediate reaction was to scoop up the poisonous demon squid and start cuddling it because it’s ADORABLE LOOK HOW CUTE IT IS
Bolla Ropal tried to see if he could TOAST A BLOCK OF CHEESE with a LIGHTSABER
Confirmation that dessert time at the initiate dining hall in the Temple is CHAOS
Obi-Wan Kenobi thinks he won’t actually let a gobbler eat Bolla, just maybe scare him into thinking that he would, only a little
Obi-Wan is on the planet for five minutes before he starts helping to troll the younglings like he’s been doing it all his life (BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN)
Bolla Ropal says this random spoon is his favorite. All of his friends immediately start trying to steal it. It’s still sitting in Obi-Wan’s room years later because apparently he won.
Obi-Wan thinks about how these kids he meets on Lenahra are just like the other Jedi younglings he knows because these kids are JUMPING AROUND WITH SUPERPOWERS and basically flinging themselves into the rafters and across the room, this is exactly the way Jedi younglings behave all the time.
Anyway, Jedi younglings are feral chaos gremlins who have psychic powers, the Jedi creche masters are the strongest people who have ever lived.
