Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
And I worked with a man called Squidward. And he was a Protestant man, but we were the best of friends. But by God, he was crabid as a bag of cats. He was an auld grump. And he'd be big into the flutes and the Oboes and things like that. He lived in a big stone head.
you really do have to watch the video, it's everything

"fetishes are innate" is a predictable outcome of the "born this way" narrative but it is also very very funny. Being into sonic inflation is something you're born with
I mean, the processes that led to fetishization were definitely present in the past, and people probably did develop fetishes for the same reason they do today.
Viz. fur fetishist used to be quite common, so common that the guy whose name inspired the term ‘masochism,’ Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, was most famous for his book ‘Venus in Furs,’ which tied fur fetishism to femdom. Now you can hardly find any fur porn in this sense at all, and if you do search you probably only find anthropomorphic porn, which is an entirely different beast from a woman wearing a fur jacket to denote power and dominance.
This is probably because fur is just less common than it used to. Fewer children and infants developing a sense of safety or discipline around the material that can later morph into a kink. But other fur-shaped kinks exist now, including leather and latex obviously.
So to me this is like saying ‘Silly addicts, I know that it’s tempting to think you were ‘born this way but there’s no way that’s true; LSD was invented less than a hundred years ago.’ Which like, no duh LSD addiction is new,but addiction itself is not. Same deal with fetishism.
I am FASCINATED by fossil fetishes.
Like, modern leather kink mostly comes from... Seeing leather kink. As opposed to directly being turned on by early sightings of bike cops and OMCs, or direct contact with leather-clad (para)militaries like Touko Laaksonen had growing up in Finland.
Rubber kink even in my lifetime has gone from being focused on galoshes and waders, things you really encountered in fishing and marine industries, to the skin-tight latex catsuit that is made entirely, well, for kink reasons, and doesn't even have little sciuomorphies to link it to any "real" occupation or use. (Patrick Califia has an EXCELLENT essay about this!)
Caning, in the sense of "school room discipline" feels like it is fossilising in the UK now, as the last people who actually got caned or tawsed at school are coming into their 40s and 50s - so younger people who are into it are mostly acting out something that has been mediated to them through kink, rather than going back to the source.
And then I wonder... Who was the last person to have a totally organic kink for caligae and lorica? Who was the last person to be into long, lanolined hair as a symbol of military discipline? Who last played out a scriptorium scene, with actual vellum and scrapers...

as a smoker one of the fastest way i dissuade people from smoking is i go you know how your headaches suck. imagine a permanent headache that slowly gets more and more expensive to cure and also you cant stop coughing in the middle of all of this. yeah? this sucks.
i have said this before but end stage liver failure did not dissuade me from starting opiates. what dissuaded me was someone telling me "do you want to be itchy for the rest of your life? this is how you be itchy for the rest of your life."
people in the tags keep bringing things that are terminal, and i need you to understand some thing critical here. people do not conceptualise what they've not experienced properly and the 'inconvenient' side-effects come faster, and are far more likely than the Big Scary Ones. "dont start cocaine because your liver will fail" -- means nothing to me, have never experienced liver failure, also it takes forever for me to get to that stage. "do you want to know what cocaine shits are" -- paying attention, do not alter my shits habits.
