This time, Theo winces. The boy’s voice is soft and somehow sweet and exhausted just like his scent and Theo huffs.

Theo’s pack is dead. Josh’s throat ripped, Tracy’s guts out. Corey and Hayden nowhere to be found. The girl was probably smarter than Theo and left the city without second thought. The chameleon disappeared as Theo taught him to, but Theo is pretty sure that he is still around, spending his time and freedom with his human boy. But his pack is long gone, their blood behind Theo’s nails.

The boy notices his reaction and gives him an apologetic grimace.

“You don’t have one. Sorry.”

Or, the one where Liam is bit after Monroe leaves the town and acidentally falls in love with his pack's number one enemy.

While Omelas is a parable and definitely not literal, LeGuin wrote an entire novel about walking away from a society that makes compromises you cannot accept, making different compromises to build a better society, and then wondering whether you should walk away from that one as well. The Dispossessed is widely considered one of her best and most important works, and also its politics are so contentious that other left-of-center sci-fi authors, like Joanna Russ and Samuel Delany spent years explaining what it got wrong.

Like the Omelas parable has no answer, but we know exactly what LeGuin thought about walking away and building anew.

Update now that I've thought about some more LeGuin I've read: so many of her books are about the choice to walk away, and its consequences. They are about leaving behind your community and either finding and assimilating into a different community, or creating a brand new community, they are about the grief of having to leave much of your self behind with your old life, about the joy but also the terror of starting anew. And also many of them are about the physical act of walking away, the sore feet, the heavy backpack, the uncertainty of whether you'll make it anywhere safe.

In Earthsea, Tenar walks away from Atuan, and Ged also walks away from both Havnor and Roke. Two books of the Annals of the Western Shore are in the end about walking away, breaking away from the society that made you, while the third one is about choosing to stay, and swallowing a horrible compromise for a chance to make things better. The Eye of the Heron is about walking away twice, and so is, in a very different way, The Beginning Place. Even Lavinia, which is ostensibly a historical novel, has an episode about walking out and living in the woods for a while. We very much know what LeGuin thinks happens after you walk away from Omelas, and the answer is mostly: menial work but in a good way.

it would be funny as fuck if the yelena/john/ava/bob teamup actually got away from valentina without bob getting shot. events proceed like normal. they meet up with alexei, who is even happier to see that yelena has made not two but THREE new friends. bucky still flips the limo.

of course, when he's interrogating them, he wants to know who bob is. "bob? bob is just a guy we found." "yeah. that's bob." "bob was in the basement." bucky is tearing his hair out. wtf are they hiding.

(they're not hiding anything. bob is literally just this random guy they dragged with them on their escape.)

bucky might actually succeed in dragging them to the impeachment hearing as evidence. congressman barnes gets up to speak. "evidence of valentina's crimes: she hired this assortment of assassins and spies and mercenaries. ex-captain america turned mercenary, john walker. ex-shield spy, ghost. ex-black widow, yelena belova. former soviet super soldier, red guardian."

"and bob. he was definitely hired. for. something."

Anyway, I’m going on record right now:

I don’t care if Sam drops a bomb on Avengers Stark Tower the next time we see him and laughs while he’s doing it, I don’t care if he aims Redwing straight at Bucky’s face and says “fire,” and I don’t care if he dropkicks one of their jets out of the air, I will still be taking his side. I don’t care if that man comes off ooc as hell, or if he magically ends up being the most Sam-like version of Sam we’ve ever seen on screen. Either way, the result with me will be the same 🤷🏾‍♀️

Sam can literally do anything to anybody at this point, and I will shrug and write an essay defending him.
