one thing about wylan is there is simply no one more committed to the bit than he is. need to distract a guard? time to break out into a solo and act drunk just to make sure you sell it. need a reason for being in a strangers house? no problem he'll just invent an instrument repair service to be part of. need someone to pretend to be somebody else? he'll let you modify his whole face and risk never being able to look like himself again just to prove a point. you've been lying to your dad about going to university? he'll tell him all about how you were the victim of a scam just to get him off your case. you need to dupe an incredibly powerful man in front of international governments? he'll deliver an oscar winning performance after getting his ribs broken and his face smashed to ensure it works. no one is doing it like him.

I've actually been thinking about a western wesper au for a while... the concept is that Wylan joins the crows as a masked bandit to help them do schemes against his father (who is the sheriff) and it's a classic hidden identities situation
(had a random thought and hoping i can word it right)
wylan absolutely was not a demolitions expert and i think that makes his proficiency for it all the more impressive
obviously he has an aptitude for chemistry but that alone doesn't garner demolition comprehension, let alone experience
by the end of ck you could probably consider him a demo expert but in the beginning he was truly just utilizing chemistry constructs and principles without genuine awareness of the specific intricacies of pyrotechnics
wylan hendriks was not a demolitions expert. he wasn't even a chemist.
he's simply knowledgeable in chemistry and intelligent enough that he's capable of abstract application of concepts which then develops into genuine cognitive apprehension of explosives, and thus successful creation of volatile compounds
