I see that "learned helplessness" is the hot new psychological term getting wildly misused. the phrase you're looking for is "weaponized incompetence," babes
weaponized incompetence is when your partner does chores shitty on purpose so that you stop asking them to do chores. learned helplessness is when you've experienced so much trauma that you've developed the mindset that you can't meaningfully change your situation and have become accordingly passive.
if your partner is exhibiting learned helplessness they aren't manipulating you, they're displaying a trauma response.
This is a pretty wildly reductive framing that is really susceptible to framing some trauma responses and learned behaviours as good and moral, and others as evil and manipulative. Like I don't think the OP is necessarily trying to create that dichotomy but judging by the comments, everyone reading the post is interpreting it that way lol
Learned helplessness is used to refer to lots of different behaviours in lots of different contexts. There is no rigidly defined diagnosis or guidelines for what constitutes learned helplessness. It's not even always a trauma response, and also people absolutely can and do "weaponise" trauma responses
This kinda moral sorting of human behaviours is reductive and unhelpful imo
i bought a house last week
fucking crazy, had solidly convinced myself I was gonna be a forever renter millenial, been very jarring getting up to speed with the arcane nightmare of home ownership
Oh my name is stannis baratheon I get to cheat on my wife with the baddest witch in the realm who promises to have my sons that can kill my enemies and empower my delusions - MAN fuck you
one of my friends in a discord server was talking about how they were nervous about their first scheduled acupuncture appointment. another friend offered to do a tarot reading for them. sent this picture.
merry (my cat) walked into the bathroom once while I was on the toilet, and found a moth behind the door (which he immediately ate, of course)
ever since, he'll come into the room while I'm pooping and check if there's another door moth waiting for him. There never has been. It's been like two years of this routine

Love that you’re making it clear exactly what physical demands this job has, but could you possibly, potentially, phrase it differently?
