God, I love randos on the internet who just want to be kind.
The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.

please watch my Parks and Rec-style workplace drama about 19th-century dressmakers, Firsthand First Hand
"if one more self-appointed Wastage Policewoman comes in here saying 'oh, I don't think all of my fabric is in my dress, Miss Spencer!' I'm going to punt her into the sun. curved seams, bitch- have you heard of them? God. I need some tea."
"yes, good morning, I'd like you to make me one of those lovely new polonaises"
"I'd be happy to, Mrs. Rutherford. have you brought your goods with you, or would you like advice on what to buy before we begin?"
"of course! here, you see?"
"...this jacket"
"yes, Mr. Rutherford said I might have it to use the velvet :)"
"this jacket which contains three yards of material"
"indeed :) :)"
"for a polonaise wanting at least six yards of goods to make up"
":) :) :)"
"she wants a pocket"
"in a close-fitting satin skirt with yards of swagged drapery that has to be placed at precisely the right angle or she'll scream at us?"
"yep"
"okay, well, I guess we can put it-"
"and she won't have it in the center back seam"

eating rice, there's definitely an upper limit to how much you can eat, but thinking about it in abstract? when filling a plate? it's hard to conceive of it. that's what makes it so dangerous
I'm crying laughing at this ššš

During the winter term, I wanted to make a pair of Medieval shoes that could accommodate modern orthotic insoles as part of an exploration of shifting values of production in the global West. After researching extant whole shoes and fragments, illustrations, and historical and modern artisanal shoemaking techniques, I finalized my design based on mid to late 14th century Germanic turnshoes and went with an ankle cut style with medial side laces.
The soles, uppers, and laces are made with veg tanned cow leather and I used linen thread for sewing. I made my own leather conditioner with beeswax and natural oils.
Being my first experiment in shoemaking, it was definitely a lesson in perseverance and resourcefulness and gave me a much greater understanding of and appreciation for the patience and skill of Medieval shoemakers.
One really funny thing about Worf is his significance in Klingon politics. Like he has no official position in their government but heās stopping civil wars, killing politicians for personal and political reasons, conspiring to rig elections, etc. His brother is on the high council and the only reason Worf himself isnāt on it is because the truth about his father would fuck up this already fragile society. He is making political decisions that affect the entire Klingon empire. Heās basically Klingon nobility. But he still spends most of his time on the Enterprise making suggestions that Picard doesnāt listen to.

you know whatās wild is that all these crazy standards we hold ourselves to are things that we donāt even value in another person? like iāve never been likeĀ āwow I love that this friend of mine is too proud to ask for help and never complains about their feelingsā orĀ āmy favorite quality about this friend is that they get straight Aās and never get overwhelmed and has never told me about a problemā or āi love that this friend has never been wrong about anything or slipped up and said something embarrassing once in their lifeā and yet here we are, pushing ourselves past our limits for and beating ourselves up over slipups of things that our friends probably wouldnāt even rank in the top 50 reasons they like us
