and in fighting antiblackness within canada and europe it is so so so important to acknowledge these places's participation in and benefit from the transantlantic slave trade. Slavery is not just the US's dirty past, it is a triangular industry lasting centuries that white people in the united states, canada, and europe benefitted from and continue to benefit from to this day. Slavery was good for white canadians and white europeans. They liked it. they encouraged it. they had slaves, they profited from the slave trade, and they used products grown from US slave labour in every day life. The slavery of Black people would not have been possible on the sheer scale at which it happened if it were not for active, consistent participation from europe and canada.

It cannot be stressed enough just how staggering the numbers are either. Slavery was an international business run by white european colonizers. Even after the slave trade was "banned" by countries such as England and France those same countries continued to tacitly support the enslavement of Black people (as well as the indigenous peoples of their colonial holdings) by consuming huge amounts of the products only made possibly through the labor of enslaved peoples. The United States still has barely acknowledged its vile history as a slave economy, something it remains to be to this day through the enslavement of Black and Brown people in the carceral system, but Canada, Europe, and much of South America have seemingly gotten away scott free.

"But it makes me uncomfortable!" The world is an uncomfortable place and complete strangers are not required to fix that for you. Learning to endure harmless discomfort is a life skill for existing in public.

"But I don't like it!" There's plenty of things in the world and not all of them are fun or enjoyable or For You. This applies to everyone and we all have to deal with that in a mature fashion.

"But I want to do the thing!" You can't always do what you want. Most people learn this in preschool. Wanting something does not entitle you to be inconsiderate to the people around you.

If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public.
