IWTV Musings - Tentative Timeline (Pt6b: 1300s - 1900s) - AMC Only (S1 - S2)

This timeline is to help me keep track of AMC's dates that Lestat & Armand slung around in S1 & S2. What irks me is that not only have these dates been changed from the book canon, but they also don't line up with what we know from the show itself. Unreliable narrators are all over this show, and contrary to popular opinion, Armand AND Lestat are no exception.

While watching a DVD from the library my TV popped up a message saying to press a button if I wanted to watch this from additional providers.

It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.

One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.

Fucking hell! Remember when every fucking device in your life wasn't a spy implanted in your home and working against your interests to try and sell your data? Remember how nice that was??

Remember when the TV was just a tool that would play the things you plugged into it?

PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.

You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.

Hey. Look at me. Please leave yourself a note somewhere you'll see it later that says "it is going to take years if not decades to get the United States government to the level of functionality it had in November of 2024." If we elect a democrat in 2028, we are not going to be up and running by 2032.

Please make sure you have a reminder in your phone reminding you to not look at 2028/32/36 Democratic candidates and say "why are they not promising/delivering Cool Shit?" because you are going to understand that to get Cool Shit we must have competent people running a decently funded government, and we are not going to have that.

We are not getting UBI. We are not getting single payer healthcare. We are not getting free college or free preschool. We are not redistributing wealth on a large scale. We are not getting free internet. We are not getting ranked choice voting.

If we are lucky, we are going to get an IRS that can collect taxes, qualified schoolteachers, research grants, Social Security, and a government that thinks maybe it should be a priority for people around the worlds to not have AIDS, malaria or TB.

To be clear, I don't mean we should forget or take our eyes off the ultimate long-term goals of getting Cool Shit, but to get there, we're gonna have to support things like "half-measures" and "small steps" and "not tearing down people who won't get us all the way there" and "understanding that they are starting from the basement basically because every government institution is being decimated"

I will also raise you this idea: I do not think there is a version of events where Armand turns someone into a vampire where he doesn’t consider it an act of violence. Daniel’s turning was absolutely violent. I just think we are thinking of that word wrong.

Vampirism is abhorrent to him. That does not change after he turns Daniel. Armand perhaps has the most realistic view of being a vampire. He sees it for exactly what it is because his existence has almost exclusively been horrific. He knows the depths of loneliness better than anyone and spent four hundred years festering in self-hatred underground. He has such severe identity problems when it comes to how he feels about being a vampire, but I don’t think those feelings are misplaced. The universe did nothing to sugarcoat how bleak it can get when it came to him. He has seen it all, and that is why he wouldn’t turn Madeleine. Because it is the very worst thing he thinks you can do to someone.

That is why Armand tells Daniel that it is him who he has done the most harm to in the bowling alley. Nothing could ever be worse than making a vampire. Even if he was gentle, which he almost certainly was, it wouldn’t matter. He murdered Daniel and damned him for all eternity. He polluted the veins of someone so very dear to him with this evil filth that has made his existence a living hell for half a millennium now. That is violence. It is perhaps, to him, as pure as violence gets and I think that is a perspective you can only really understand when you’ve lived for as long as he has and you’ve endured what he’s endured.

But he loves Daniel. It’s purely selfish. He cannot let him die. He loves Daniel so much it overrides everything. It’s not just his need to be loved, it is Daniel specifically. He can’t exist without him, so he does the very worst thing, in his mind, that he has ever done.
