“I love you,” cas says, because it’s his last chance. it’s his only chance. and he needs to say it now before the empty can take him and his happiness forever.

“I love you, too,” dean immediately responds. frantic and fast, words tripping over themselves in their haste to be spoken aloud.

“dean, you don’t-” cas tries to say. because he can’t... dean can’t mean that. it was a rush. it wasn’t true.

but dean was moving closer. a hand on cas’ cheek, words spilling faster and faster as he desperately says, “I do, cas. I do. I love you. I love you, too. there’s no time. there’s never time. but it doesn’t make it any less true.”

there’s a million ways dean has said it over the years. a million different ways he’s shown it. but none of that matters now. in this moment, the only thing that can say it is the words themselves.

“I love you, too, cas.”

Honestly Adam is the most honest and real person in the entire saw franchise. He doesn’t lie or hide things or pretend to be something that he is not, he is what he is and doesn’t hide that. He is a poor photographer who stalks people and lives in a shithole of an apartment, and he accepts that. Even his job is the very raw truth, as he says his camera can’t lie.

In a series where everyone lies and hides their true self, Adam is the exception. Sadly this honesty does not save him from his fate. He was unable to win, his game was rigged, and so he dies.

Even in death he exposes the raw truth, the cult of jigsaw was never about saving people, it was punishing them, and the way he died exposes that ugly fact.
