i decided to look up the original mad world because i had never heard it and at one point in the video one of the other dudes in tears for fears just starts going hard while standing on a dock
I didn’t kno it was a cover of their song
O, poor younglings whose minds were corrupted by that dull, insipid, nuts-busting cover of Mad World by Gary Jules!
O, sad generation who, misled by Google itself, types MAD WORLD on a browser and suddenly finds out THAT Gary Jules’ version’s video and, only ten lines below, written way smaller, the reference to “Other versions of this song” with Tears For Fears in it (which just makes the path from the original song to the cover look upside down).
O, unaware millennials who missed that manic Roland Orzabal doing his lonely, brave, frantic dance on the synth solo!
Please, do yourself a favor and look for Tears For Fears’ first album, The Hurting, which contains Mad World and other pearls like Pale Shelter.
And, once you’re well prepared and you wanna see Pale Shelter’s video, pay attention to the very last minutes of it, when something REALLY funny happens to mr.Orzabal…
If I wasn’t already a TFF fan, I wouldn’t bother getting into them based on this, this is so annoyingly pompous lol. People didn’t just start recording cover songs in 2001 when Donnie Darko came out – there are countless cover songs spanning decades and decades that you probably had no idea were even covers!
Try a different approach if you actually want people to get interested in something they wouldn’t have otherwise known about lmao.
Thank you, kiddo, for your wise advice. In almost 40 years of life I would have never imagined myself that COVERS actually existed BEFORE Donnie Darko and 2001, so yours was really a history lesson I’ll keep carved into my heart, my mind and my soul. Oh, by the way, I even forgot I wrote this post, since I kinda left Tumblr to its rotten destiny and to its users who, like you, don’t get irony when they see it. Plus, I had no serious intent to catechize anyone in this world - this should have sounded quite obvious from the start, since, at least, you were smart enough to detect my style as “annoyingly pompous”, which was EXACTLY how I wanted to be perceived and how I love to express myself sometimes when I’m in an histrionic mood. I wanted to play a bit the teacher with openminded youngs - hopefully there’s still someone like that out there - who might have felt the comedic tone of the whole speech and, just having a laughter at it, might have said “Oh, let’s see what happended to Orzabal” or “Let’s listen to this The Hurting album”. In any case - let me be clear - I COULDN’T GIVE A DAMN FUCK about what people wanna do or whether they will take an advice I wrote years ago, whatever the way I wrote it, or not. I got more serious problems in REAL LIFE than staying here preaching in the desert (and, aside from porn bots, don’t think I got THAT big number of followers to be influenced by ME… hah!). Point number two, I don’t have to justify myself about what I write with ANYONE (you included) or change my style and my contents to please casual readers. If you stumbled across my post and felt offended or “annoyed” by it in any way IT’S YOUR OWN PROBLEM, not mine. Maybe the line where I said “unaware millennials” hurt you somehow since you’re 21? I thought millenials had larger shoulders than this and could get over a polite comment - I didn’t say “You’re all sons of a bitch”, after all. Or maybe, because you’re a Tears For Fears hardcore fan, you felt I illegittimately crossed your turf and you could have done a much better propaganda for your heroes? Go ahead and do your job. I’m no one’s advocate, I DON’T CARE anyway and Tears For Fears will ALWAYS shine, easily without both your and my help. I honestly think you gave too much importance to my post… next time, take things for what they are - PEOPLE DON’T ALWAYS DO STUFF AS IF THEY WERE A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH. And sometimes a speech is just a speech, an individual way to open oneself and free for a while the thoughts hidden in mind for a long time. I’m sure I bored you even this time, did I? Hah… wonderful. It’s the problem of being old school and still using words in 2018…
Get a life, sis. Peace.
